Small 40K Rules Changes with BIG Impacts...

Let's talk through a few 10th Edition Rules Subtleties

Comments

Wow, GW went the other way it turns out. At least it’s to a minimum of 1!

Robin Uney

We don't have the rare rules section yet. I fully expect an order of operations section in the rare rules to specify how to apply "set/add/substrate/multiply" rules, and likely rounding an minimum values. It's very, very unlikely they'll leave it with -1D rendering things immune to D1 weapons.

Derrick Whittet

I hope you are right, but the pdf is the exact same as the leviathan book. No mention of damage caps.

Andrew Dunbar

Has anyone talked about why they removed the 1 wound minimum from duty eternal? are they intending dreads to not get hit with 1 wound weapons?

Sarvoth Talem

Looks like he just has a Fights First... which is worse now I believe, and sadly as I have 2 :(

Ghazz Caulder

So...Hellblasters with Priamris Lt, Bolter Discipline. Storm of Fire. Dev Doctrine. Appears to one-shot Canis Rex by my maths. Can someone help me identify where I have gone wrong, or if that is right?

Kyle Raymond

It's how they've always marketed the rules, how it's always been "you can play with these rules" except that really you can't. Is this your first new edition? There's always tons of questions when you just have the Core rules. Go read the 9th Core Rules and how woefully insufficient they are too.

Derrick Whittet

My son and I are looking to use Judiciar as he has fight first...but still a bit confused with charge action sequence. Is he stronger now in 10th? Want to use him with my veteran bladeguards. (Nice Vid!)

Finn 1969

It was always said you can play with the Core rules and the Datasheets. So if you never use any additional books, they don't apply to you? That would be a very weird way to market rules.

MadScientist

Remember, we have the Core Rules, not ALL the rules. There's no reason to assume you'll be able to get damage reduced to zero. Far more likely we'll get a Rare Rules section/designer commentary that includes order of operations and minimums for stats. It's unlikely to even be an errata or FAQ, just more rules we haven't seen yet. Core Rules != Full Rules. See also: 9th edition.

Derrick Whittet

holy crap - I totally assumed that the -1 D was the same as in 9th, -1D to a minimum of 1, but RAW, it is -1 flat... so turning 1s into 0s?!? That will definitely get an errata/faq and be changed, but for now, RAW the Redemptor is immune to small arms fire!

Marek Dziedzic

Yeah it would be nice to have some clarification on the -1 Damage rule... I've been playing since 3rd edition and I can't remember a time when you were able to completely drop all damage.

STEVE SMITH

Ah, I see- it's not _allocated_ until after it has changed to mortal wounds, so DR doesn't affect them

Robin Uney

I don't think thats in question, really. After rolling a 6 to wound, the attack sequence ends, so there is no damage roll, hence no damage that could be reduced. Mortal Wounds happen outside of the normal damage mechanics

MadScientist

Would like some clarity from GW on how Damage reduction affects Devastating Wounds. That’s some incredible value if you’re also reducing incoming mortal wounds.

Robin Uney

Space Marines also have the -1 Damage still remaining on the Redemptor Dreadnaught, and the Storm Ravens gained it. Same wording as well.
