I personally felt Ufotable did quite a bad job of replicating the moral conflicts and characters' niche emotions/motivations from the VN, especially on Shirou's part (this is also true for all the other F/SN adaptations including non-Ufo ones), but the music and animation never cease to surprise me so it's still PEAK. I can clarify the puppet part since I didn't see anyone mentioning it in the chat. You are absolutely correct in saying Shirou didn't look puppet-ish at all. This would indeed be a problem for anyone else's puppet, but not Aozaki Touko's. She is a master in this field and her puppets are almost perfect replications of the original body if not an upgrade. Sakura moved to Shirou's mansion and sold nearly all of Matou's wealth and books on magecraft in exchange for that well-designed puppet to fit with the soul Illya saved. As for Aozaki Touko, she is one of the most important Type-Moon (Nasuverse) characters and you will see her literally everywhere. Her major roles are in Garden of Sinners (aka. Kara no Kyoukai) and Mahoyo but her direct or indirect appearances flash out in almost every single Type-Moon work. She also has an incredibly interesting personality as you will see if you choose to watch these. Finally, Happy Birthday again and please keep doing more Type-Moon stuff!

Another work by Nasu animated by ufotable, I highly recommend watching it if you want to better understand how she makes these dolls. The story is very good too and explores other powers from the nasuverse. So if you like investigation, mystery, horror with the same atmosphere as the heaven's feel films, I recommend it.
