My Guess...Lug subdues Carlo in one quick move. He then opens up to Carlo about PhanPhan and his 3 marks (a little). After Lug leaves, Carlo realizes he's turned on my Lug and complicating the triangle more.

Considering how long it's been going on. I can see it coming to a boiling point like this. Lug just plain giving up, probably pushed Carlo past his limit.
