Scene within a Scene
Added 2024-11-15 21:56:30 +0000 UTCIf you ever find yourself wondering why it takes me so long to get anything done, this scene might explain things. I've been working on and off for several years on a space-girls and lasers story with lots of emissives (you've probably seen some of these scenes before). There's a scene when some reinforcements arrive, and I wanted to do a glimpse of the command centre just before the dropship lands, showing the invasion force's officers realising that the battle isn't going their way. There'll be a large bank of monitor screens, and I hit on the idea of each screen showing helmet-cam footage from different troopers, at least half of which will be down, to show how badly things are going.
So now I need to make eight 1st person scenes to go on the monitor screen that the officers will be looking at...

"Mayday!My....platoon...overrun! Sent....reinforcement.....NOW!!" First Lieutenant Prunella Smith uses her last strengths to repeat her desperate plea for reinforcement to the HQ. The Alliance officers zeroed in at Prunella's helmet cam, showing the battle had indeed taken a toll at her platoon as well as others assigned on this invasion mission. Only one lone Alliance soldier is seen still holding out firing her weapon, the rest are shown either dead or in the case of poor Prunella, mortally wounded and dying on the planet's harsh soil. "Hang in there, Lieutenant! Reinforcement shall land at X-Planet in less than two minutes!" one of the comm officers at the HQ tries to reassure the mortally wounded Prunella. At the same time, however, Prunella gasps and lost her consciousness, her body collapses to the floor. The comm officer sees the Lieutenant's vital signs going haywire and her life sign indicators starting to flash "Life signs critical!" warning. It is clear Prunella doesn't have two minutes to live, not even one minute. Instead, she is ending up as yet another Alliance casualties in its effort to retake the X-Planet. Whether that effort be a success or a catastrophic failure for the Alliance depends on the success of the reinforcement force that should land on the planet any moment now....
