Village Fight

You might remember the Dinosaur riders image I put on Deviantart a while back- I went off down a world-building rabbit hole with that one, and if there'd been more time, I'd have created a whole load of text stories for the setting.
I had the idea that only a select handful of women had a natural, magical gift allowing them to ride a carnivorous reptile into battle, with special 'talent-spotter' witches being sent out all over the empire to find girls with the gift from all sections of society, rich or poor. I decided that in this, alternate history world, Pangaea had never separated and mammals (non-human ones anyway) had never evolved much larger than cats, making Raptor-riders a massive force multiplier because they formed the only type of cavalry available.
These girls are the noble foot-knights of the empire: They don't have the raptor-riding gene and so they have to fight dismounted, but they ape the style and costume of Raptor-riders anyway (lots of spikes to make you less appetizing as a meal- little armour because the mount can't take the weight).
One day, once I've cleared my decks a little, I'll definitely be going back to this story world.

This scene reminds me of "Red Sonja" (1984) opening where a group of female priestesses fought the army of Queen Gedren who invaded their temple. It seems this story was inspired from that battle scene. I love to see the story continue in the near future.

2024-12-16 12:50:42 +0000 UTCYessss, please continue this idea...this is what I meant when I mentioned "Amazon or Paladin" in my vote for the "most interesting" post. A sword and sandal kind of battle, just looking at this one picture I am already anticipating more :-)
