__________
Kizzie was always the nerd of her peers in high school. Her bookish nature to her daily reading habits, well, those could just be considered nerdy. But matched up with her gothic clothing style, that made her a strange bird to everybody—or a strange mouse, to be specific. When she got her nose ring and her punkish hairstyle, dying her hair red and getting an undercut, that confirmed her ostracization from others altogether.
Luckily, she soon found a friend that was just as strange as herself.
Kizzie was wandering the town one day, searching for a new store she’d found online. All the other bookstores had tired her interest and bored her with their selection. She wanted something a bit more . . . unique. And from what she read online, this store promised to give her what she wanted.
She turned the corner and stumbled across her destination: /Miss. Aqua’s House of The Occult/. It didn’t /look/ like a bookstore from the outside, that was for sure, but that made it all the more mysterious. After taking a deep breath (she tended to get nervous in new places), Kizzie put her hand on the doorknob and walked inside.
The first thing that hit her when she entered was the smell. There was a musty scent hanging over the entire place—but it was more than that. There was something cryptic and ancient about it. As if she was literally walking inside a crypt. . .
Part of her became fearful of this place. But when she looked forward, her fear melted away, and transformed into pure /awe/.
This store was absolutely huge! Books lined every shelf, and there were /many/ shelves, dozens even, all around the establishment. So many things to read, so many possibilities! The mouse was ecstatic.
And the /aesthetic/! The entire store was cast in dim light, and surrounded with gothic items: skulls, old candles, tarot cards. Even jars of mysterious objects, some of them either ashes or spices, lined the walls, covering some of the shelves. It felt like just the right place for Kizzie to be.
It felt like . . . home.
“Do you need any help finding what you’re looking for, child? Or . . . well, it does seem you’ve found it, haven’t you?”
The mouse turned to the front desk, and saw a smiling rhinoceros looking back at her. “Are you Miss. Aqua?” Kizzie asked, walking up to her.
“That I am,” the rhino said. “I don’t get many visitors, and you seem quite enamored with my shop here. . . Perhaps I can show you around?”
“Yes please!” the mouse said.
And so, she was given a magnificent tour, which started a beautiful friendship. Kizzie began going to the shop more frequently, becoming friends with Miss. Aqua, until when the rhinoceros retired, Kizzie was given ownership of the place.
Now 22 years old, she’s in charge of this occult bookstore, running it daily and helping customers. You should give it a visit—you never know what you’ll find there.
