Deep within the forest, as the sun was about to set, two feral wolves were trying to find their way back home.
“This way!” called Sara, a white Alpha, running forward and dashing between the trees. Realizing her mate was falling behind, she stopped the waited somewhat impatiently for Felan, a grey omega.
“You’re . . . so . . . fast. . .!” puffed Felan, panting as he caught up to Sara. “We . . . should . . . probably . . . stop soon, anyway. It’s getting pretty dark. And it sounds like a storm is coming, too.”
Right on queue, the sound faraway thunder cracked through the air, making both wolves jump at the noise. “Maybe you’re right. . .” Sara admitted, looking around the clearing. “Do you see somewhere we can stay overnight at? I don’t want to get caught outside in the rain.”
“Hmm. . .” Felan glanced around, searching for a good spot, and his blue eyes widened happily when he spotted a very welcoming sight. “Hey, how about that over there! We’ll be dry and safe in that cave!”
Sara turned to follow his gaze, and found a very large opening in the rock, definitely big enough for them to stay at—provided there was nobody else in there already. “Ooo! Looks good to me!” exclaimed the white wolf. She nuzzled her head up against her mate’s. “Good eye.”
Felan laughed, nuzzling back. “Why, thank you.”
They trotted over to the cave, just as thunder boomed through the clearing again, and lightning cracked in the distance. “Good timing,” Sara muttered as they ducked inside the rocky entrance. “No one wants to get caught up in a storm. . .”
The two sniffed around and listened, detecting whether this cave already had a resident. But the scents of animals was old, and they heard nothing aside from their own breathing. And so, the two gave each other a happy glance, and continued.
They walked further inside, going deep into the cavern, as to avoid getting splashed by rain. “Looks good to me,” said Felan, smiling as he studied the place. “Nice and dry for sure. Yeah, this’ll be the perfect place to stay the night at. . .”
“Felan, look!” Sara exclaimed, pointing her nose ahead of them. There were blue lights lining against the cave wall, signs of something further in. “They’re beautiful. . .!”
The grey wolf yawned, settling in against the rocky floor. “Maybe we should focus on resting, babe,” he said, eager to get some sleep. “What do you think?”
“But I want to see what’s down there!” declared Sara. “Come on—let’s go have a look!” And so, before Felan could say anything or stop her, the white wolf was dashing forward, down the cavern tunnels, and was out of sight.
“Babe, wait!” called Felan, rapidly standing up from the ground. He quickly ran after her, following the sound of her pawsteps, and those beautiful blue lights. The lights were transfixing, really, and the grey wolf found it a bit difficult to concentrate with them shining on him. He found himself unconsciously slowing down to stare at them more than a few times, but after the third stop, he shook his head. “No, I have to find Sara!” he exclaimed, resolving to focus on his mission. And so he ran after her, calling his mate’s name as he went. “Sara? Where are you, babe?” But she didn’t respond—he was a little worried. But then, he turned the corner and saw her up ahead; relief filled the grey wolf, and he quickened his pace.
When he found her, Sara was frozen at the very end of the long tunnel—and Felan quickly saw why she was so still. This area was surrounded by pretty blue stones, the same that emitted the light. Each were more beautiful than the last, and all were inscribed with the strange language of an ancient culture. They were unearthly, perhaps even of magical or alien origin—who could really say? All Felan knew is that they weren’t the average rocks he usually found in nature, that was for sure.
Sara walked forward, and started investigating one of the smaller stones: she prodded it with her paws, then licked it with her tongue, then nudged it with her nose. “We have to take one of them with us,” she decided. She walked forward, and took the stone between her teeth, clamping down gently on the rock.
“Are you sure?” Felan asked hesitantly. “I mean, we don’t know what these things are capable of, what they could do—it could be dangerous, babe.”
“I’m sure it’ll be fine,” the white wolf insisted. “What could go wrong? I mean, they’re rocks, for goodness sake!”
But as she was talking, the small stone got shifted around in her teeth and pushed back by her tongue, and on the last syllable, she accidently swallowed it.
“. . . Oops,” Sara said, smiling sheepishly.
“Oh boy,” muttered Felan. He was half-expecting for his mate to start to glow like the rocks now. “I hope nothing bad happens now that you’ve swallowed that, babe. . .”
“I’m sure it’ll be ok,” the white wolf said. She sighed. “Though I suppose we should take it as a sign to leave these stones alone. Let’s go back to the front of the cave and rest, ok?”
“Sounds good,” said the grey wolf. He nuzzled against her cheek. “Let’s get some sleep, babe.”
They walked back through the tunnels together, until they reached the cavern’s mouth. Resting a few yards away from it, Felan lay down near the wall, and Sara went next to him.
“Good night, love,” said Felan, closing his eyes.
“Good night, my dear,” responded Sara sleepily, doing the same. Soon enough, both wolves were fast asleep, and snoozing away.
That’s when the storm finally came. Thunder crashed right above them, and rain started to pour. And a strange phenomenon began occurring to Sara. . .
All at once, she grew.
Her tail was twitching in her sleep, but as the thunder sounded and the lightning crashed, it began to grow, swelling up immensely. The fur on it thickened and increased in length, rapidly growing in size to fit the growing tail. This went on until, finally, her tail was twice the size of her. And that wouldn’t be the only thing that would be twice her size. . .
At the same time, the white wolf’s ears flicked back and forth as she snored, and then, they, too were growing, increasing in size on her head, the tips stretching out and the sizes moving further and further apart. Until both ears were also twice the size that they were before, just like Sara’s tail.
Her snout was also changing. It stretched out in front of her, growing further, and her nose swelled up as it grew in size. Her neck stretched and thickened; her eyes widened in increased in diameter; her lips stretched further out; her teeth grew inside of her mouth; her tongue stretched further and further. Her cheeks grew to fit all of these new changes, and when everything was complete, her head was twice as big.
Her body was next. Her chest rippled and bulged out, growing quickly to catch up with the rest of her. Her stomach did the same, bloating out underneath her as her inside shifted and grew with her outsides. When it was done, only her legs and paws were left to grow.
First, the back legs enlarged, the bones inside thickening and increasing in size, pushing the skin outwards as it all grew to match her new form. Then her front legs did the same, growing until they were both twice their normal size.
Lastly, her paws swelled, the five toes on her forefeet and the four on her hind feet growing very quickly, along with her paw pads. These didn’t take very long at all, and they quickly matched the legs in size.
And so it was complete. Sara was now twice her normal size—but the poor wolf had no idea. She slept soundly, completely unaware of her change.
Luckily for her and her mate, this thunderstorm wasn’t very long, and it soon ended. But there was another one on the way, and it would bring more chaos with it. . .

Sunshine came through the trees and into the cave, hitting Felan at just the right spot. The grey wolf opened his eyes, feeling relaxed and warm. He had been nuzzling up against his mate in his sleep—but when he fully saw her, he jumped up and let out a surprised yelp.
Sara was bigger than yesterday . . . much bigger! Everything about her was nearly double the size she usually was: her paws, her legs, her head, her tail . . . everything! It was absolutely bizarre, and definitely a confusing thing—why on earth had this happened?
“Sara?” Felan called. He walked over and gently nudged the white wolf on the shoulder, trying to wake her up. “Sara, babe? Can you hear me?”
“Mmmm?” she muttered. Then she rolled over, coming in his direction—Felan yelped and tried to get out of her way, but it was too late. She proceeded to flop right on him, accidently pinning the poor grey wolf to the ground.
He groaned, and sighed, reaching up and nudging her shoulder again. “Sara, babe?” he called again, trying to shake her a bit harder this time. “Can you get up? Something happened!”
“Mmmm?”
“Sara, please!”
“Mmmmm!”
Her eyes jolted open, and Sara yawned loudly, her hot breath blowing against Felan’s face. “Hey babe,” she said sleepily. “What’s going on? You said something happened—oh!”
The white wolf looked down, saw she was pinning her poor mate, and quickly scrambled up, an embarrassed look on her face. “Sorry about that,” she said, laughing awkwardly. “I didn’t mean to squish you, babe. Are you ok?”
“I’m fine,” said Felan, standing slowly from the ground, “but Sara, are /you/ ok?”
“What?” she frowned. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Look at yourself!” exclaimed Felan. “You’ve grown!”
Sara’s eyes widened. “What?” She looked down at her paws and legs, then back at her body and tail, and things didn’t /look/ different from her perspective. But then she turned back around, and realized that she was /taller/ than she was the day before, wasn’t she? She had been wondering why Felan looked further away from her when she looked down, but assumed it was because of an angle on the cave floor.
“W-What happened?” she asked, confused. “Why am I bigger?”
“I don’t know,” said Felan, sighing. “It’s strange to me too, babe.”
“Maybe it’s—oh!” Sara realized something, and the white wolf looked back at the tunnels, where the strange rocks were, and at the blue lights lining the cave wall. “Maybe it has something to do with the stone I swallowed?”
“Maybe,” muttered Felan. “Actually, that would make sense.”
“Do you think this will wear off?”
“I hope so.”
“It better.” It was pretty awkward, being twice as big as her mate. She didn’t like that she was looking /down/ at him now—that was weird. “Well, I’m /sure/ it’ll wear off,” she said quickly, trying to dismiss the while thing. “It’ll all be fine. . . Right?”
“I think it will,” assured Felan. The grey wolf came over and reached his head up, wanting to nuzzle against her. She came down, and their heads came together softly. “I really think so.”
“Good.” Sara affectionately licked the top of his head, her giant tongue encompassing his entire forehead. “Now, should we keep going? We want to keep a good pace in order to get home, after all.”
“Right,” agreed her mate. He walked toward the cavern entrance, then turned around toward her. “You coming, babe?”
Sara nodded. She still felt unsteady and unsure about this recent development. But with Felan’s help, hopefully everything would all be ok. “Yeah, I’m coming.
“Let’s go.”
The two wolves poked their muzzles out of the cave, looking and sniffing for danger. Then, they were off, walking side by side as they ventured through the forest, wary of anything the outside world might use to try and stop them.
Sara wobbled more than a few times as she went. She was still getting used to her new, larger body, after all. But after some stumbles and trips, she was able to get the hang of things, and walked confidently alongside Felan. What she /couldn’t/ get the hang of was her new perspective on the world.
Being bigger brought a new look at the forest—she reached as tall as some of the bushes outside now, after all, and went further up the trunks of trees than Felan did. Her paws left bigger imprints on the ground, her feet sinking deeper into the dirt than they previously did. She felt . . . heavier, weightier, /stronger/. It actually felt kind of nice.
But at the same time, she couldn’t help but feel unwieldy, and see the world around her as more fragile. Her bigger form was more capable of hurting, after all—just like how she had accidently pinned Felan with her heavier body. How could she handle this without bringing damage to the things and beings around her?
Sara sighed and shook her head. She would be here forever if she ruminated on such things, now wouldn’t she? She could wonder her whole life if she wanted. But she had to move forward at some point, and keep going on with things, see what this new body brought along with it. The white wolf resolved to do just that, lifting her chin up and confidently walking forward.
Next to her, Felan was also keeping an eye on her new form. He had to admit he was a bit more wary about things since Sara’s new growth—being pinned underneath her twice-as-large body had not been a pleasant experience, especially after realizing he couldn’t get up on his own. Now his mate was a force of nature, huge and dominating, her presence booming throughout the forest as they made their way through it. He couldn’t help but feel small and weak in comparison.
But he knew that Sara would never intentionally hurt anybody, especially not him. Still though, he wondered about the stones that had brought such growth to his girlfriend. Would they make her grow again? And how much bigger would she become this time?
Felan shook his head and brought himself out of his thoughts. Whatever challenges this new development brought, he and Sara would tackle them together. And that would be enough.
The two walked together for hours, journeying through the forest at a steady pace. Until Sara looked up, and noticed that the sky was darkening.
“Looks like we should find shelter,” she said, turning to Felan. “What do you think, babe?”
“Yeah, I agree,” the grey wolf said, glancing around the clearing. “Let’s see . . . oh! There’s another cave over there!”
He pointed his muzzle, and Sara followed his gaze. It wasn’t much of a cave, really, just a small, hollow indentation in the mountain, but it would do as shelter. “Good eye,” Sara said, bringing her muzzle down. Felan hesitated for a moment, then brought his smaller head up, nuzzling against his mate. Sara noticed his hesitation, and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“You’re just so much . . . /bigger/ now, babe,” he said, laughing. “I’m a little intimidated.”
“Nonsense,” Sara cooed, giving him an affectionate lick, her tongue covering his whole cheek. “I’m still the same wolf I always was. Don’t worry.”
“You’re right.” Felan smiled, and turned toward the cave. “Let’s go.”
The two walked toward the cave, and settled underneath it, lying down on the ground. They were too tired to properly scope it out. “There,” Felan said, resting his head on his paws. “That should do it for now—”
/BOOM!/
The crash of thunder made the grey wolf jump, and he looked up, surprised that the rain was already coming down. “Guess the storm was closer than it looked,” he muttered. He turned to Sara. “We should probably—”
What he saw made him freeze. Sara was growing even more! Before his eyes, she increased in size again.
Her head swelled and expanded, the muzzle growing outward and, along with it, her eyes, nose, and teeth, which inflated in size. Her ears increased quickly to fit her new head, and her cheeks pressed outward. Her chest and stomach enlarged, her body puffing up rapidly to fit her new form. Her legs extended outward and thickened, growing new layers of muscle as they increased in size. Finally, her tail inflated, puffing outward and then growing exponentially, the fur quickly increasing in length as the skin grew. Until her full, large tail was finally complete, and with it, Sara’s transformation.
It all took only a few seconds, but then, suddenly, she was even bigger, with her paw now bring as large as Felan’s forehead. She was so big that, when Sara sat up, her head crashed into the ceiling, and rocks crumbled, falling onto the cave floor. “Babe, are you ok?” Felan asked, alarmed.
“I-I think so,” muttered Sara, dazed from hitting her head. “Why am I growing again? What happened to—”
/CRACK!/ Lightning shot through the sky in front of them, and the white wolf immediately began enlarging again. She stumbled out of the cave to keep from hurting Felan, and he watched in horrified amazement as his mate doubled in size again. Then thunder crashed, and she grew even more. /BOOM! CRACK!/ As the thunder and lightning sounded, she grew more and more.
Her body swelled and ballooned as it grew and grew, each part rippling and pulsing with the thunder as it grew. First her paw was as big as Felan’s forehead, but it quickly increased in size, until it was as big as his full head. Then it grew more, reaching the size of half his body, and then it increased until she was bigger still.
As for her height, she had been bigger than twice Felan’s size, but soon, she was thrice his size. Another thunder crash, and it didn’t take long for her to be four times his size. After the next lightning strike, she was getting bigger, and Felan stopped being able to truly keep track.
When the growth finally stopped, her paw was now as large as his entire body, and she towered above Felan, reaching the trees and crashing into them as she expanded. The grey wolf yelped in alarm as the trees came down, and ran out of the cave, worried for his mate.
“SARA!” he called, his fur getting soaked by the rain. “SARA, ARE YOU OK?!”
“I THINK SO!” she called back, her voice booming thanks to her new size. “I . . . I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT HAPPENED! I’M HUGE!”
/I’ll say!” Felan thought, staring up at his enormous mate. The rain was starting to soak her, too, and the water that dripped off of her fur was as big as he was! The grey wolf ducked and dodged the huge droplets, huddling back inside the cave.
The storm was stopping now, thankfully, and there was no more thunder or lightning. Felan and Sara waited for her growth to continue, but thankfully, it had stopped.
“Phew,” the grey wolf said, breathing a sigh of relief.
“THAT WAS CLOSE!” exclaimed Sara. She brought her huge head down, and set it in front of Felan. “WHAT DO YOU THINK CAUSED THAT?” she asked, her breath leaving her mouth in gusts of wind, almost blowing her mate away.
“I don’t know,” he muttered. Sara turned her large ear toward him, and he repeated, “I don’t know! That was really weird. . . Why did you only start growing during the storm?”
“I DON’T KNOW,” admitted Sara, sighing. This one did blow her mate back, but only a few inches. “SORRY!” she said quickly, covering her mouth with her massive paws. “I DIDN’T MEAN TO!”
“It’s ok!” said Felan, calling into her big ear. “I’m fine!”
That’s when he realized something. “Maybe the thunder and lightning is what made you grow!” he exclaimed. “That was what sounded with each of your growth spurts!”
Sara’s eyes widened. “MAYBE!”
“Yeah!"
That’s when the two heard growling. The couple turned their heads, and saw a massive bear (well, massive by Felan’s standards) was standing just a few yards away, clearly very angry. “Oh,” muttered Felan. “I guess we know who this cave belongs to. . .”
He was too tired and weak to fight off the animal—and even if he was at fur capacity, a bear was no easy opponent. How were they going to ward it off?
Oh. Perhaps. . .
He turned to Sara, and she grinned with her giant, massive teeth, clearly knowing what he was thinking. “STAND BACK, BABE,” she ordered him. “I GOT THIS, OK?”
“Ok.” He took a few steps back and watched, his gaze flickering between Sara and the bear.
The bear let out a loud, angry roar, clearly enraged, and Felan gulped, thoroughly intimidated. Still, though. He had confidence in his mate, and knew that she had this covered.
“YOU READY FOR THIS?!” Sara boomed at the bear. Her loud voice was enough for the other animal to jump in surprise, and it turned to the giant wolf, clearly noticing her for the first time. Perhaps it had been so fixated on the intruder that it hadn’t seen her until now.
Sara didn’t wait for a response from the bear. She brought her paw up, and then brought if slamming down on the ground in front of the angry animal. There was a loud /boom/ as her hand crashed into the forest ground, bringing up dirt and making the very ground shake. The bear started whimpering, clearly intimidated, but then its ears flattened, and an angry look came to its face. It roared at Sara, and Felan gulped. So, the other animal’s resolved had only strengthened? This wasn’t good, not good at all.
“OH PLEASE!” Sara said. She brought her massive head down, bringing up even more dirt as it crashed onto the ground in front of them. Then, she blew out, the breath leaving her mouth making a loud, roaring sound as it headed toward the bear.
The bear roared, and tried to resist, but Sara’s windy breath was too strong. Felan watched in amazement as the animal was blown away, far into the forest. Soon enough, it was out of sight.
Sara took a moment to catch her breath, and then she turned to Felan. “YOU OK, BABE?” she asked.
Felan nodded. “Thanks, Sara!” he said, speaking as loudly as he could, so her giant ears could catch his words. “That was great!”
The white wolf beamed, a huge smile entering her large face. “THANKS! SHOULD WE CONTINUE ONWARD?”
Felan nodded. “Go slow, ok?! Otherwise, I won’t be able to keep up!”
“GOOD POINT!” said Sara. “I’LL GO SLOW FOR YOU, BABE!”
She brought her massive face down, and he nuzzled his tiny muzzle against it. Then, they were off.
She began walking forward, but at a crawling pace, which was just enough for her mate to keep up. The tiny grey wolf walked next to the large white wolf, and he couldn’t help staring up at her as he did so.
Sure, Sara’s growth was a bit of a mystery, even if they did know how it had been caused. But it could be useful for them, at least. He watched her giant paws make imprints in the dirt—imprints he could walk inside, if he wanted to.
Even if things were strange, they were going to make it through. After all, they were mates, no matter what.
