I try an hypothesis : They use to be friends before the accident and her parents' death turn her insane, and cass, remembering the old Koemi, can't stand to be with her, she's too shameful ... It's surely because koemi is in this state that make Cass able to stand against the other's hatred, she knows all the others can do to her ( if it's just basic bullying) is nothing compare to that ... If she really must fell guilty for an accident because it's involving her father's society and remain the school's scapegoat ( in a weird world where people must pay for their parents 'crime) , just seeing Koemi surely be heartbreak to her.
