patreon

restructuring in 2018

hey folks!! as promised, i'm going to be doing things a bit differently from here forward.

for health insurance reasons, i'm going to be getting a Big Boy Job, and will no longer be relying on patreon for the bulk of my income. i still want to make comics, though, and i don't know what the interim between now and Big Boy Job Start will look like, so i'm gonna change things up a bit around here.

starting in january, i'll be switching from per-month pledges to per-creation, and i'll be focusing exclusively on comics rather than trying to balance comics and illustration. instead of being charged every month, you'll be charged only when i put out a comic page.

(i don't know yet what my comic-producing schedule will look like, so when that change rolls over, you can always set a monthly pledge maximum to make sure you don't blow your patreon budget on the off chance i become a comics-making machine)

i'll also be posting finished comics on gumroad as PDFs for anybody to buy for a couple bucks each, but i'll be posting detailed work-in-progress shots exclusively on patreon.

all this comes as a result of a combination of life changes, my on-again-off-again mental health, patreon's weird dust-up about fees, and, unfortunately, pirates! every month, i get an increasingly-large number of new pledges that bounce, plus, everything i have ever posted here has been skimmed and reposted on yiff party! wowie zowie. i've got a DMCA takedown request pending, and i'm hoping some of these changes will help mitigate the theft & fake pledges.

so, summary:

- pledges processed per comic page, not per month

pros:

- can spend more time on each comic & each individual page, meaning better-quality comics all around
- patrons get access to detailed WIPs
- patrons still have access to the suggestion box to let me know what they're interested in
- patrons still get to vote on which comics get made & have say in details every now and then (like character outfits or toys being used)
- non-patrons aren't completely locked out of seeing any comics i make
- ?? less piracy & fake pledges ??

cons:

- less consistent schedule
- no more choose-your-own-adventure comics :(
- no more OC cameos (for now; figuring out a way to bring this back in a better way is on my to-do list, because i really enjoy it)

take care y'all, and happy new year!
