Confuror Recap

Unlike the first trip, this time I will just write about it. I don't really want to doodle about it lol..... It wasn't very eventful and a bit tiring in other ways!! I only have plush pictures to share, as well as many things I doodled on people's conbooks signing section. Everything you see above is that.

Day 0 was very uneventful since well, sales don't start until Friday, Thursday was just to pick stuff up and set up our table.

7-11 in my city doesn't have onigiris, but the ones in Guadalajara do, so I decided to give them a try to cope with not living in Japan yet. Needless to say it was a disappointment lol.

They barely had any tuna in them lol, but at least they were very cheap.

In terms of food, every year I try to get pizza from a hotel in front of the Expo, it's crazy good!!! The cheese is really cartoony it just stretches forever, it's always a highlight of visiting. My friend Frank came with me for the first time, and he rightfully described it as "it's just like the pizza from A Goofy Movie". It's so greasy I prefer to eat it with a fork and knife lol.

Speaking of Frank, we had to kill time at the airport while waiting for the check in time of our Airbnb, so we played a bunch of Mario VS Luigi, the deaths that happened there were absurd at times lol...

My kawaii 3DS : ) I need to put more stickers on it

I got a huge sign made with Yumi and I's group name, Toxic Melon Soda, since someone in the con group chat was offering. It's way bigger and sturdier than I thought! It's pretty cool to have something like this.

Not attending any cons for the foreseable future, so this will just be a cool display piece!

Day 1 was quite crazy sales wise! During previous years the biggest sales period has always been Night Market, (where R18 products are OK to be sold) but the numbers from day 1 easily doubled previous year's NM.... It was quite a shock, and other artists I talked to agreed that things went unusually well lol, but none of us were complaining!

Day 2 pace slowed down heavily to what would be a normal day, which was a bit disappointing given the previous day lol, but sales were still consistent with the numbers of previous years, so nothing to really worry about.

Day 2 is usually the heaviest given that we get up at 8am, start selling at 10am, finish at 4pm and go back to setting things up and selling at 9pm until 1am, so our plan was to just finish the day, head back to the apartment to eat cup noodles and rest until it was time to head back lol. But another artist, Reergo, wanted to keep chatting, so I suggested to go out for lunch or something, she is a local so she had actual recommendations for good stuff, in the end we had Lebanese food. It was great! And a good change of pace from the usual. She was a lot of fun to hang out with!

Ever since coming back from Japan it's the first time I actually enjoyed food lol... likely due to the novelty of it.

Mint salad was probably the highlight for me! Meat filled zucchinis were so good, too!

And in the blink of an eye it was time for Night Market! In general I didn't bring a lot with me, since the whole goal of attending again was to get rid of all my leftover merch, thankfully I can say I succeeded in that regard! By 12am we only had the new stickers available, so we could just call it a day early lol.

What are you doing Jack!?

Day 3 is always the slooooowest, and nothing changed this time. I was just trying to get rid of stuff so we offered a lot of deals 2x1 etc etc lol. Thankfully my suitcase was very empty by the time it was all over.

The highlight is always seeing.... "friends"? again, not sure what to call them since they're artists I like and am friendly with, but I don't really ever interact with them outside of the event lol!!!! Acquaintances I guess.

Most of them this time didn't have tables, they were just there for visiting. Others weren't allowed in and I was shared some shady inside info as to why.... Which is unfortunate to hear such juvenile petty things being part of the event lol. Not allowing artists to booth just because they don't draw what you like is very scummy!

Jeso is always a joy to stumble upon, you never run out of things to talk about with him! It was nice to see Luxar, I enjoy seeing others do comics and his is a cute one I have been reading since we met last year! Which speaking of, Viejillo also stopped by our booth and we had a nice chat, he's another one who just started out a comic. With so many others doing so I can't wait to get back to work on mine too.... I can't be left behind!!!!!

Blacky is always fun to talk to, out of pure coincidence all 3 years I have attended we have been placed back to back lol, their art is really cute and worth checking out! One of the artists I always try to get stuff from every time.

Here is what I got this time! I don't think I ever shared it, but they had made this little Krea sticker for me last year, it was a very nice surprise : )

Catching up with Dacachi is always a lot of fun! Their work greatly inspires me, I remember being blown away when I first saw their art in the con group chat. It really makes me happy to see others greatly succeed, they recently got their manga released by a publisher and I feel nothing but admiration for them : ) It makes me want to try to catch up to their level.
I'm no different than anyone and look up to others, so it's always crazy whenever they remind me that they actually do like my work too lol!!!!

I love their art and try to collect all their books, these are this year's grabs! They also had a watercolor set based on them, it was too cute and tempting to not pick up... I'm excited to do something with them!

They alongside a friend of theirs picked up the Taifau Cafe book and asked me to sign it, something I'm always happy to do but feels more special since again, what do you mean people I look up to like me too!!!! lol

Their friend also asked me to draw something on a plain desk mat, I would've filled it up if I could, but I didn't want to be greedy lol.... I drew this and quite like it, I think I want to make it a finished illustration someday.

Also signed their copy of Krea Holic, it's the only one I ever did so technically the rarest!!! lol

They hadn't even opened the book until I signed it! It was still in it's envelope packaging lol

Last year I had commissioned Koiyaroid, very last minute so it couldn't be done in time, (they already had quite the backlog!) when I commission others I'm very patient since yeah.... been there with absurd queues and wait times... On it at this very moment probably <: ) sorry

But anyways, I got to see and chat with them again, another person I always enjoy seeing every year! Their art is stupid good, I wish they had a table so I could support them even more!

I was over the moon when they gave me my commission... to be able to have a traditional piece from them, look at how cute this is!!!! I need to get a frame for it...

I love being completely blind and give others full freedom when commissioning, it's so exciting to see what they do!! It's very fun : )

Given all the Toxic Melon Soda branding and merch that you can see from her, Yumi was intended to visit and table with me, but flying off from Japan isn't the cheapest so we begrudgingly agreed on not going through with it.... Which was very upsetting! It was really hard to fully enjoy the con since like, there were endless reminders that she wasn't there lol... From the merch, people asking about her or me talking about her, some of the conbook doodles.... oh well the eternal struggle of long distance relationships!!!! It really is quite awful! : )

I'll keep working hard to be back again because I really can't stand it!

Yumi couldn't be there in person but was present in spirit!

And that's pretty much all there is to say this time! While it was a nice change of pace to finally be out of my room for a few days once again it was a bit hard to fully enjoy it... I still had fun I enjoyed going on a trip with my best friend for the first time but yeah, I wish circumstances had been better so it could have been an even better time. Unfortunately my brain isn't in the best position lately so I focus too much on the negative now... I hope to work on changing that soon, but it's hard.

Anywayssss enough sad I hope you enjoyed reading and all the silly doodles!
