描き始めてそろそろ1年・・・

こんにちは。

もうあと1ヶ月ほどでイラストを描き始めて1年になります。

今回は少し趣向を変えて1年を振り返ってみたいと思います。年末にやれよという気もしますが…

また、今月中に支援者向けにX（旧Twitter）の第一歩目の戦略、塗り方講座や自己添削の記事を上げていこうと思います。

戦略については、この1年Xを見てきてどういうイラストが伸びやすいか自分のイラストや他の方のイラストを見てどういう特徴があるのか研究した分析レポートみたいなのを書いていこうと思います。

まず初めに、私のイラスト歴を軽く紹介します。

私自身子供の頃にポケモンなどのキャラクターを少し模写するくらいで、特に絵の練習はしていませんでした。そして高校生の頃に美術部に入りました。ただ、美術部とはほぼ名ばかりで、特に美術の先生が居ない状態でたまにイラストを描いたり展覧会のために作品を作ったりという感じでした。大半は漫画を読んだりゲームしてたりという程度です。

以上の経験から模写はまあまあできる方かなと思っています。

下の画像は未完成ではありますが、クリスタの使い方を練習する上で模写したゼノブレイド2のホムラです。模写イラストなのでXやPixivには上げていません。

経歴については以上です。大したことはなかったですね…

次に、2023年から始めたイラストの活動を紹介します！

一番最初にアップしたイラストは勝利の女神NIKKEのアリスでした。

そしてこちらが3ヶ月ほど後に直したアリスです。

最初はイラストをアップする勇気がなかったのですが、とある方のツイートを見ていたらそれに勇気付けられて自分もアップしようという気になりました。その方は超初心者でイラストもめちゃくちゃ下手だったのですが、イラスト上達最速を目指してフォロワー10万人を獲得するという目標でイラストをアップしていました。それを見て「私の方が上手」と思ったわけではなく、「イラストをアップしない私のほうが上手い下手に関わらず既に負けている」と気づきました。勝ち負けではないのかもしれませんが、この時点でチャンスすら自分にはないじゃないかという感じでした。ならばチャンスをゼロのままにしていられないなと・・・

最初に上げたアリスのイラストは砂埃を被ったような色味で、背景も何故つけたのかという感じはありました。あったほうが良いのですが、これだと味気ないです。

個人的には最初にしてはアリスの特徴は捉えていてピチッとしたスーツの感覚も分かるような出来ではあったと思いますが、筆の使い方がよくわからないせいかモヤッとした感じがありました。初心者はよくこのパターンに陥りがちだと聞きます。

直してからは色がはっきりしてモヤッとした感じは軽減されて見やすくなったかなと思います。

ただ、今思うと少し俯瞰構図なのに真正面を向いている感じがするので、俯瞰かどうかもっと分かりやすい構図にすればよかったなと…

そして次のアリスが描き始めて半年後の8月に描いたアリスです。Skebでの初リクエストイラストです。（一番初めのリクエストは次に紹介するPixivでのリクエストです）

以前に比べて動きや表情が良くなった気がします。

スーツの塗り方に関しては以前のほうが良かった部分はあるかもしれませんが、全体的には立体感を感じられて良い出来だったかなと思います。

上のアリスからほんの少し前の7月ではありますが、初めてのリクエスト作品がシロナのスウツイラストです。

このシロナのイラストがきっかけでリクエストが増えた上、これをもとにリクエストを送ってくれた方もいましたのですごくいい機会に恵まれたなと思います。題材も非常に良かったのだと思います。リクエストを送ってくれた方に感謝しております。もちろんリクエストされた方全員に感謝しております！

ちなみに、シロナのこのポーズはシロナのスタイルを目立たせつつ、自信のある大人の女性を意識したところモデル歩きのようなポーズになりました。

次に11月のイラストですが、勝利の女神NIKKEのキャラであるレッドフードを描きました。

これは個人的に気に入っている塗り方で、NIKKEでの塗り方をリスペクトして見様見真似で描いたものです。一番影が濃くなる部分（ほぼ真っ黒で塗ってます）のレイヤーが実は一番上に来ていて、上に載せたイラストとまた違った塗り方をしています。

NIKKEのイラストが多いことから分かるように私の目指している塗り方はNIKKEに近いです。

そして最後に、コミケのチラシ用に描いたゼノブレイド3のヒロインたちのイラストです。

個人的には今までで一番うまく描けたイラストです。背景もまあまあしっかり描いていますし…

本当は左側の岩からお湯が出ている構図にするつもりでしたが、このままだとミオの頭の上に直撃して見えるような状態になってしまうので変更しました😂

こうして1年間見てみると単純な画力（線画や塗り方）に大きな変化があったかというとそうでもなかったかもしれません。ただ、構図だったり表情だったりが向上したのかなと思います。それだけでも与える印象は違ってきますし、より生き生きとした感じが伝わってくるのかなと思います。

過去にほとんど模写しかしていなかった身ではありますが、構図だったり動きや表情を自分で考えて描くようになったので大きな前進だったのかなと思っています。

そして余談ではありますが、近日中に本業を退職してイラストや漫画を本業にしたいと考えています。休職していたのでイラストにかける時間はあまり変わりないと思いますが、イラスト等を本業として食っていけるように頑張ってどんどん描いていこうと思っています！同人活動ももっと積極的にやっていこうとも考えています。

実際のところ、イラストで食っていける稼ぎはまだありませんが、サラリーマンをほぼ10年やってきて思ったこととしてはやはり私にはイラストの道が性に合っているという気がします。10年失敗続きの私だったのですが、この1年でそれを覆せるほどの経験を出来たのかなと思っています。

また、この流れというのも本当のところは自分の運命に従って動いているだけなのかなと思う部分もあります。運命をそこまで信じるタイプではないですが・・・

5年前に妻と結婚する際、妻が私の運命数占いをしていたようでした。その占いの結果をつい最近になって見たのですが、今の私の年齢のときに新たに自分の道を切り開いて出発するという内容でした。そして時々神社でおみくじを引いたりもしていたのですが、そのどれもが「迷いや心配事はあるが、自分の道を進めばいずれは切り拓かれる」といった感じの内容でした。これらの出来事から、やはり今が自分にとってのターニングポイントなのかなと思います。

何が起こるかわからない日々ではありますが、自分を信じて新しい未来に向かって頑張ろうと思います。

Hope everyone is doing good.

In about a month, it will be a year since I started drawing illustrations.

This time, I would like to take a slightly different approach and look back on the past year. I feel like I should did it at the end of the year...

Also, within this month, I will be posting articles about X (formerly Twitter)'s first step strategies, coloring courses, and self-correction for supporters.

Regarding strategy, I'm going to write something like an analysis report that I've been looking at over the past year and researched what kind of illustrations are most popular, looking at my own illustrations and other people's illustrations, and researching what characteristics they have.

I hope you look forward to it.

First of all, I would like to briefly introduce my illustration history.

When I was a child, I didn't particularly practice drawing, other than making a few copies of characters such as Pokemon. Then, when I was in high school, I joined the art club. However, the art club was just in name, and without an art teacher, we occasionally drew illustrations and created works for exhibitions. Most of the time I just read manga and play games.

Based on the above experience, I believe that I am reasonably good at copying.

The first image above is unfinished, but it is Homura from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which I copied while practicing how to use Clip Studio. Since it is a reproduction illustration, I have not uploaded it to X or Pixiv.

That's all about my career. It wasn't a big deal...

Next, I will introduce the illustration activities that I started in 2023!

The first illustration I uploaded was NIKKE's Alice, the goddess of victory.

And the second Alice picture is a remake after about 3 months.

At first, I didn't have the courage to upload my illustrations, but when I saw someone's tweet, it encouraged me and made me want to upload my own. The person was a complete beginner and was extremely bad at illustrations, but he was uploading illustrations with the goal of gaining 100,000 followers in order to improve his illustrations as quickly as possible. When I saw that, I didn't think, "I'm better than you" but I realized, "If I don't upload illustrations, I'm already losing, regardless of whether I'm better or worse." It may not be a win or a loss, but at this point I felt like I didn't even have a chance. If that's the case, I can't leave my chances at zero...

The first illustration of Alice I posted had a color that looked like it was covered in dust, and I wondered why the background was added as well. It would be better if there was one, but this is bland.

Personally, I think that for the first time, I was able to capture Alice's characteristics and get a feel for the tight suit, but it felt a bit vague, probably because I didn't really understand how she used the brush. I hear that beginners often fall into this pattern.

After fixing it, I think the colors are clearer and the blurry feeling has been reduced, making it easier to see.

However, now that I think about it, even though it's a bird's-eye view, it feels like she's facing straight ahead, so I wish I had made it easier to understand whether it was a bird's-eye view or not.

The next one is Alice, which I drew in August, six months after I started drawing it. This is the first requested illustration on Skeb. (The very beginning request is the one on Pixiv that I will introduce later)

I feel like her movements and expressions have improved compared to before.

There may have been some aspects of the suit's coloring that were better in the previous version, but overall I think it was a good result as it gave it a three-dimensional feel.

It was July, just a little while before the Alice above, but the first requested work I received from a client was Cynthia's suit illustration.

This illustration of Cynthia led to an increase in requests, and some people also sent requests based on this, so I think I was blessed with a great opportunity. I think the subject matter was also very good. I would like to thank to whom sent the request. Of course, I would like to thank everyone who requested!!

By the way, this pose of Cynthia makes her style stand out, but I also created a pose that looks like a model walking because she was conscious of being a confident adult woman.

Next, for November's illustration, I drew Red Hood, a character of NIKKE, the goddess of victory.

This is my personal favorite way of painting, and I respected the way NIKKE used it and copied it based on what I saw. The layer with the darkest shadow (painted almost completely black) is actually at the top, and is painted in a different way than the illustrations above.

As you can see from the large number of NIKKE illustrations, my style of coloring is similar to NIKKE.

And finally, here are the illustrations of the heroines of Xenoblade 3 that I drew for the Comic Market flyer.

Personally, this is the best illustration I've ever drawn. The background is also well drawn...

I was originally planning on composing the hot water coming out of the rock on the left, but if I left it like this it would look like it was hitting Mio's head directly, so I changed it😂

If you look at it this way over the past year, you may not have noticed any major changes in simple drawing skills (line drawings and coloring methods). However, I think the composition and facial expressions have improved. That alone makes a difference in the impression it gives, and I think it conveys a more lively feeling.

In the past, I had only done copying, but I think it was a big step forward because I started thinking about the composition, movement, and facial expressions myself.

As a side note, I am thinking of retiring from my day job in the near future and making illustrations and manga my main occupation. Since I was on leave from work, I don't think the amount of time I spend on illustrations will change much, but I'm going to do my best and draw more and more so that I can make a living from illustrations as my main job! I'm also thinking about becoming more active in doujin activities.

Actually, I haven't earned enough money through illustration yet, but after working as an office worker for almost 10 years, I feel that the career of illustration suits me. I had a series of failures for 10 years, but I think I've gained enough experience in this past year to overturn that.

Also, there is a part of me that wonders if this flow is really just following my own destiny. (I'm not the type to believe in fate that much...)

When I married my girlfriend five years ago, it seemed like she had read my fortune. I recently saw the results of that fortune telling, and it said that I would be carving out a new path for myself at my current age in 2023. I also sometimes drew fortunes at shrines, and every time I did that, I get "I have some hesitations and worries, but if I follow my own path, I will find my way eventually.'' Based on these events, I feel that now is a turning point for me.

These days I don't know what will happen, but I believe in myself and will do my best towards a new future.
