[Dreamer] Chapter Five

[A/N: Wasn't really satisfied with this chapter for some reason]

[One Week Later]

Dashing through a forest, a young boy wearing what seemed to be leathered clothes, with a bow and quiver strapped to their back could be seen dashing through the trees, dodging and weaving, as if trying to escape something.

Not far behind him, was a group of three men, all screaming and chasing after the boy, each man had a spear and a rather rough appearance.

These men, just so happened to be barbaric cannibals, so you could guess why the boy was trying his damndest to flee from the much larger and stronger men.

But he wasn't truly fleeing, he was going just slow enough to make sure they would continue following.

The boy's face was completely serious as he ran through the trees, seemingly following a path he memorized, as he looked back to make sure the men followed him every now and then.

Eventually, however, the boy took a sharp right past a tree and leaped over a small area of grass.

The three men did not see the boy jump when he turned past the tree, so when they turned around the corner, chasing the boy, they didn't notice the strange pile of leaves, and when they ran forward, the ground beneath them gave way, as they all fell into a deep pit.

Breathing hard and covered in sweat, the boy turned back and peeked over the edge of the pit, sighing in relief that he caught the chasers.

"Wh...What the hell is with you guys?"

That boy was, of course, Midyoria, and a few days ago, his peaceful life with the pack of Trikes was interrupted by a hunting party of men that attacked without mercy, even trying to kill him along with the trikes.

Forced to flee, the men gave chase and eventually, Midyoria was able to lose them, only by sheer luck of course, seeing as the men were stronger, faster, and far greater in number than him.

It took an entire day to set this trap, and once he felt he was prepared enough, he lured some of the hunters right into it.

It was risky, no doubt about that, but he wanted answers, not only as to why they'd kill the only friends he seemed to make since arriving here but also why they'd try to kill him too.

He was furious and sad, so he recklessly charged forward without caring about the consequences or what would happen after.

Now, he was standing above a group of men who glared at the boy with venom in their eyes.

"Why?" He asked.

"Why not?!" One of them shouted back, a smirk on his face as he tried to climb out and get to the boy.

Frowning, the boy asked another question, "Why are yall hunting for me?"

"What else?! Your fresh meat!" Another chuckled.

Seeing the men getting closer and closer to escaping the pit, Midyoria fled.

...

What was wrong with the people here?

Every person he has come across so far, has wanted to kill and eat him, he wondered if he had been kidnapped and transported to an island to be entertainment for horrible people or something.

That night he was forced to sleep in a tree, hoping that nothing would be able to reach him so high up from the ground.

...

In the morning he carefully climbed down the tree, only to hear something rapidly approaching and him getting tackled.

The wind knocked out of him and tasting dirt, he tried to struggle, but the one pinning him was much stronger.

Somehow managing to roll over to see his attacker, he found one of the men from yesterday that were chasing him licking his lips and staring right into his eyes as they smiled.

Paling, he struggled harder, causing the man to laugh even more.

"My! What a fighter! I bet you'll be absolutely delicious!"

Not even wanting to consider what the man could have meant, Midyoria struggled with all of his might, before suddenly coming up with an idea.

Focusing on his implant, he opened his inventory and withdrew a knife, slicing the arm of the man, forcing him to let go and take a sharp breath from the pain.

Momentarily free, Midyoria kicked the man in the crotch with all of his strength and pushed him off.

He tried to get up and run, but the man grabbed his leg, pulling him down.

Freaking out, Midyoria did the only thing he could, he used the knife and stabbed down at the man with all of his strength.

A sick squelch and crunch echoed as the knife pierced into the man's skull and brain, killing him.

[Congratulations! You have slain Borris, Lvl 38 of the Tribe: Pig Hunters]

Horror marked Midyoria's face as he realized what he had done, his knife and hands now coated in blood, he let go and scrambled away, throwing up before running.

He ran and ran, before eventually collapsing and becoming a mess.

He cried, he screamed, he panicked.

He wasn't ready to kill, he shouldn't have had to, but this...place forced him, he just wanted to go home.

For hours he sat in silence, curled up in a ball as he kept having flashbacks to the man, dead at his feet, lifeless eyes staring back at him.

He was once again alone.

The trike herd he was living with was gone, the creatures he tamed were dead.

And all of it was caused by the very people that wanted him dead.

What was he to do? He was weak, he was alone, he missed home, missed his mom, his friends, and his old life.

He just hoped that he'd be rescued soon...

...

He walked for days, sleeping in the trees every night, until he accidentally stumbled upon a small cave.

Having no better option, he set up camp in the cave, crafting a campfire, and bedroll, and setting up a few drying racks outside the cave to dry meat for jerky.

For an entire week, he stayed in the cave, not even having to go out and hunt due to the food he had left in his inventory.

Eventually, however, he ran out and needed to gather more.

He was exhausted, having hardly gotten any sleep in the entire week due to constant nightmares that haunted him in both his sleep and waking hours.

He gathered his strength and got to work.

Setting up traps in the area, and hunting down small creatures, mostly Dodos.

However, he was feeling lonely, and with some berries, managed to tame a Dodo by feeding it.

The Dodo waddled its way back to the cave with him and seemed quite happy as it rubbed its beak on his leg and squawked in a high-pitched tone.

He grabbed the Dodo and hugged it.

When would this nightmare end?

...

Meanwhile, in the hospital, doctors were now working around the clock in taking care of Midyoria as his body seemed to constantly be ripped open and apart.

"What the hell is happening to this boy?" A new doctor asked.

"We don't know, we think it's a newly awakened quirk that's doing this to him," A nurse answered.

"Isn't he a little old for that?" The doctor asked.

"He is, but it's not uncommon for some Quirks to awaken later in life, surprisingly, his medical records showed him to be quirkless, but after running our own scans and X-rays, we found he had the extra joint in his toes."

"Do we have any idea as to why this is happening? Or what the quirk is doing to him?"

"From what we have found so far, his body is undergoing an immense amount of stress, and even his brain is showing signs of activity. However, the strangest part is that his body is not only undergoing rapid regeneration but also seems to be improving. We found that his bones have become denser, his muscles more compact and even his skin has become tougher."

"We don't truly know why this is happening or what he's experiencing, but if he didn't have that rapid regeneration, he would have long run out of blood, so far we have not been able to stop the wounds from appearing on his body, or why they are even appearing in the first place, but we have hooked him up to IV, and are supplying his body with all the nutritional content it needs."

"We don't even know what's causing the boy harm?" The doctor asked, confused.

"We have no idea, frankly, we haven't ever seen a Quirk like this, and unless the boy wakes up, we can't do much other than make sure he is clean and given the proper amount of nutrients and water to keep his body going.

"How long has he been in a comatose state?" The doctor asked.

"About three days now," The nurse replied.

The nurse and doctor watched over the boy, concerned.

What if he really never woke up again?

Why would his Quirk cause so much harm to him? Is it simply the Quirk trying to improve his body?

Unless the boy woke up, they would never really know the answers to the questions.
