[The Lewd Traveler] 7 – The Start of an Army
Added 2024-03-22 01:52:34 +0000 UTCAs it turned out, the mana drain on the Undead was dependent on the creature's size and strength. The two Greater Elks that I made into Zombified Beasts cost me two mana an hour each, while the strange armored creature and horned rabbits cost me a single mana an hour, and the smaller beasts like the squirrels cost me half a point an hour.
It took me many hours to revive all of the creatures into the undead, all of which I chose to make into Zombies because I believed that going the skeleton route would make all of my undead essentially useless in a fight since they would be only bone.
Suddenly, a loud growl echoed across the clearing, causing me to blush and groan.
I was famished, and I'd rather not eat the rotting carcasses that had been exposed to the elements for so long.
I currently had two zombies, Greater Elks, four zombie horned rabbits, that weird-scaled creature, and a few squirts, lowering my mana regeneration to half of what it should be. This is something I should fix in the future, especially if I plan on casting spells more than a few times every day. After all, it would be a pain if my regeneration slowed down to a trickle and took days to refill.
But I still felt as if there was something...more.
Reaching out, I placed my hand on the bare skull of my first undead, the Zombified Greater Elk.

That's...interesting. It possesses no intelligence or even a will; it's more like a...husk, which I guess is apt since it is a zombie. Then there were its skills. The first two, I could think, were the uses of, while the third was probably some sort of skill that made charging more powerful. Was that why it was so...intent on charging me when I first met it?
I wanted to see the skill in action, and I was getting hungry, so I felt it best if I moved on from this area, though not before checking out the skills of the other zombies as well, at least the ones that were of a different species than the Greater Elk.
The Scaled Amadillo had the ability to shoot out its quills, giving it a long-range option, but now that it was an Undead, it had no way to regenerate the quills, while the armor it had gave it a better defensive ability against other animals.
The horned rabbits, on the other hand, while weak, made up for it with speed and penetration power via their horns. Basically, the Horned Rabbits were glass cannons.
The squirrels were...well, squirrels. There was nothing good or bad about them; they were merely squirrels.
All of them should prove useful...hopefully.
Having the squirrels advance forward and deeper into the forest first, I then had the damaged Zombie Greater Elk follow behind them, acting as a Vanguard that would alert me to any dangers.
The other Greater Elk I had followed behind me while the Horned Rabbits circled around me, ready to pounce on any danger.
Then, the armored armadillo followed beside me, acting as a last defense against anything that got close.
I still had enough mana to create more undead if needed. However, if I lost any, I would quickly become vulnerable, as if I were forced to use magic. It would take even longer for it to regenerate.
I guess that was the weakness of this class: its mana regeneration.
Shaking my head, I focused my thoughts elsewhere, silently commanding my zombies to begin moving forward deeper into the Jungle.
As we passed the treeline and delved into the Jungle, I noted the strange...atmosphere of the Jungle.
It was quiet...too quiet.
That's when I heard a distant squeak and cackle before a notification appeared in the corner of my vision.
[Zombified Squirrel Level 2 was slain by Forest Goblin Level 3!]
What the fuck?
Not wasting a single moment, I commanded all of my Undead to charge forward and help the Greater Elk, which was no doubt about being attacked as it was not far behind the Squirrels.
I followed behind them, dashing past the trees. I came upon a scene of carnage as my Undead tore apart what looked to be a group of small green men.
[Your Undead: Zombified Greater Elk Level 5 has slain an enemy!]
[Your Undead: Zombified Greater Elk Level 4 has slain an enemy!]
[Your Undead: Zombified Horned Rabbit Level 3 has slain an enemy!]
[Your Undead: Zombified Horned Rabbit Level 2 has slain an enemy!]
[You have leveled up!]
Checking out the notification, I was surprised to see that the Goblins seemed to be a few levels weaker than the Elks but around the same strength as the Horned Rabbits in terms of levels, with the Goblins averaging 2-4 in Level.
As for my level up, I, of course, threw the five new points into my Wisdom attribute, raising my Mana to 160 points, while my Mana Regen rose to 27.5.
Slowly walking over to the Goblins, I watched as my Undead parted way, letting me through and to the Goblins.
The Goblins were...ugly things; they had horribly ugly faces, jagged teeth, and sharp, pointed ears. Their teeth were yellow, and their eyes were disgusting to look at. I can't believe there were some that fantasized about getting raped by these appalling monsters.
As I examined the Goblins, I silently instructed the Undead to spread out and search the area. Perhaps there were more nearby.
Seeing them fan out, I couldn't help but feel a bit glad that I could order them mentally. Ordering them vocally would likely destroy my voice very quickly, not to mention it could reveal me if I ever needed to order my undead and stay hidden at the same time.
The Goblins wore simple loincloths and boasted a large amount of primitive jewelry in the form of bones and...shiny rocks. As for their weapons, they seemed to be only armed with simple wooden clubs, which were not particularly effective weapons for creatures of their size and stature.
Briefly glancing at the Goblins, I hesitated only for a moment before casting [Raise Undead]
[Congratulations! Your skill: Raise Undead has leveled up!]
[You have gained 1 PP!]
Deciding to do something different this time, I chose to have the Goblin raised as a Skeleton instead of as a Zombie.
This time, when the flame washed over the Goblin's flesh, it melted away, falling to the floor as ash as the newly arisen Undead climbed up to its feet, grabbing the club that lay at its feet.
It was strange seeing the flesh, organs, muscles, and sinew of the Goblin's corpse melt away and turn to ash in a very intriguing yet disgusting way.
I couldn't help but wonder how it even worked. Could I manipulate it, or was I shackled to the system? I knew what mana felt like just from using my skills, feeling the mana course through my veins as the skill activated.
I just needed to find out how to evoke my mana. Perhaps once I found some way to summon it without using my skills, I would be able to control it and freely cast my own spells, but not now. For now, I had to focus.
Ordering the short skeleton to follow and protect me, I left the other corpses of the Goblins, making sure to grab one of their clubs so as to arm myself.
That's when I heard the sound of fighting. High-pitched screams echoed from across the area, first coming from one area of the Jungle I saw my Undead travel towards, and more screams moments later from my undead that went another direction.

Not wasting a moment, I threw the five free attribute points I got from leveling straight into Wisdom before heading for the screams that sounded closer, but not before raising another Goblin into a Skeleton, taking me only half a minute before my two skeletons and I were on the move.
As I ran, I checked my status screen.
