Hi everyone! π₯°
Here is an early look at the drawing I made for this monthβs bonus video! π€ Devoted dragonfly members voted for me to draw Ophelia and Prince Hamlet, inspired by this mood board:

Iβve been loving The Fate of Ophelia by Taylor Swift, so I wanted to create a drawing that captures the vibes it gives me! π₯°
It also made me curious about Shakespeareβs play Hamlet, so I read about the characters and then felt even MORE inspired to draw them π€ Their relationship starts out sweet and romantic, but turns into something ultimately tragic, filled with betrayal and distrust. Hamlet ends up lying to Ophelia, telling her he doesnβt love her, which leads to Opheliaβs madness and eventually her death. When she dies, Hamlet says, βI loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers could not with all their quantity of love make up my sum.β
So in my drawing I wanted to show that guilt and longing he feels in the end π₯² I painted some nature elements as well because Ophelia dies when sheβs making flower garlands by the river, and she falls in and drowns. Her death throughout art history has been depicted as a βbeautifulβ tragedy, like these famous paintings:

These were a big inspiration for me β lots of green hues with touches of red, dark and sad vibes but beautiful at the same time π€
The full painting process will be posted for all devoted dragonfly members soon! π«Άπ»
In other news, tomorrow Iβm going to be posting part two of my scene study from Atonement!

The video will go up for all big-hearted butterflies and devoted dragonflies π₯°
Ok long post!! π I hope youβre all having a lovely week so far :)
Love,
Lydia π
