At the very least, I think she's their go-to newscaster for Atypical News. I.E., anything that you used to see only in the tabloids.

Foradain

What does it say, that I needed your comment to realise, that the phrase is actually pretty close to the common proverb, except for using different words of similiar meaning, given a minor misunderstanding about *which* of the possible meanings?

Klaus

Did Suzie get a promotion to the News Desk? Or even dare I ask... Anchor?

Steve M

"Xenophobia" is a bit harsh. A phobia is an IRRATIONAL fear. Being cautious of an alien race with, funnily enough, ALIEN psychology (ie, who may have no concept of gratitude, honor, not biting the hand that feeds you, etc) seems perfectly rational to me. That's why we have the Aesop about scorpion and the frog.

Nicholas Grey

“The feline has been unmasked? The kitty has been exposed? The puss.... look, am I getting close?”

Andrew

Yes. Then again, too much exposure to Xuriel would be a LOT of fun, right?

We're not advanced; I think that was his point. One country would be greedy enough to take advantage of the situation. That doesn't mean they'd necessarily be less xenophobic, just more opportunistic. In this case, it's almost certainly Deus's. After that country made their greed move, a bunch of other countries would realise, wait a second, they're going to get super space technology! OMG, we need to get IN on this! More realistically, the aliens would do their best to not let us have their tech, so there wouldn't be a super-huge technology bonanza from it. The fact that the country that made the greed move would probably be a little third world country would probably put this into sharp relief. Most of the technology that resulted from it would be conceptual, and more advanced countries with better established scientific infrastructure would probably get the best use of this. But in this case, Deus already has some space tech he's wanting an excuse to "develop", so his country *will* be getting some space tech from this... even if it's not space tech the Alari vessel actually has.

If I can easily follow the alternate translation chain from "The cat is out of the bag" to "The genitals are unveiled", does it mean that I have had too much exposure to Xuriel?

Foradain

I'm sure aliens would find a lot of our expressions weird and/or vulgar.

Stephen Gilberg

Or cacophemistic.

Stephen Gilberg

Wouldn’t put it past Dabbler to have made some tweaks to Cora’s translator :)

Andrew

I get what Dave is saying, but are Earthlings really all that advanced? o.o

Simon Magid

Did Syd lose her demon hair band or is she just not wearing it?

Paul Gabbard

Space Google Translate still gets things weird. Of course Dabbler insists it is a feature and not a bug.

CyberSkull

Seems like a better saying that will hold up well with time.

Town Crier

Ah, cultural euphemistic differences!
