Comic resolution issues.
Added 2019-07-01 14:22:18 +0000 UTCI think Patreon has changed something about how they handle high res images. For the last month or so, when you view a comic, they look low res on the page. If you click on them, it shows a higher res version, but on my screen it's constrained to 1000 pixels wide. The comic I'm posting is 1500px wide though. If I click to open it in another tab, Chrome at least downloads it instead. That version is the full res version, so I'll have to dig into what's going on now. The 1500px wide version may exceed some artificial limit Patreon has imposed. Maybe if I drop it back down to about a 1200px wide version it will behave like it used it.

I always opened it in new tab anyway. It works just fine this way, so I don't think you need to change the base resolution, Dave :)

2019-07-05 03:06:53 +0000 UTCIt used to be that I would right-click on the original image and select "Open in new tab" to get the full-size 200% image; left-clicking on the original image would get a zoomed-in version which was about 150% maybe and opening that in a new tab would get me the same image,no bigger. Now opening the original image in a new tab gets me a 620×964 pixel version, whereas opening the zoomed-in image in a new tab gives me 1500×2333 pixels. Given that I can't even scroll the textbox into which I am typing this, I am not particularly surprised that Patreon might be messing with us…

2019-07-04 12:47:47 +0000 UTCI think patreon changed the way they send out the images based on browser to save on bandwidth and data. The image compression displayed helps with folks using their mobile data but those posting hi-res images as a image post(as oppose to having the file in the attachments) have the short end of the stick.

2019-07-03 20:54:21 +0000 UTCUnfortunately the way Patreon 'zooms' images into view breaks under Safari and iOS. It's such a pain.

2019-07-03 15:03:29 +0000 UTCNow tested on Chromium and Opera, the same process works on these. Chromium is the base on which Google Chrome was built, so it SHOULD work there.

2019-07-02 17:13:44 +0000 UTCWhat seems to work for me (tested on Firefox) is as follows: Click on the image itself to open it in "zoom" mode. RIGHT CLICK the zoomed image to open in new tab. In that new tab click the image to open full sized version. The full sized version will be much larger than the zoomed version. I use a firefox extension to allow "open in new tab" on right click.

2019-07-02 17:09:35 +0000 UTCAnother person I follow just posted a 6800px wide image but I had to click zoom first then right-click->view image. So I think Patreon changed how things works to support larger images while also making the posts load faster.

2019-07-02 15:16:44 +0000 UTCI've seen posts that include a link to a file (downloadable, and usually can be viewed in-browser). If the in-post image is considered a thumbnail, the linked version could be the full-sized.

2019-07-01 21:08:34 +0000 UTCThey definitely changed something. You’re not the only comic artist I support who’s noticed this.

2019-07-01 16:51:22 +0000 UTCWhen I put my cursor over the image, it changes to a '+' in a circle, and by left clicking it enlarges the image, which then appears to be hi-res.

2019-07-01 16:47:56 +0000 UTCWith click -> double-click-menu I opened 1500 in Firefox.

2019-07-01 15:50:30 +0000 UTCWhen I download the image I get the 1500px version so I think it is purely the page preview that is effected.

2019-07-01 14:36:49 +0000 UTCWell, it looks like they are doing some sort of animated zoom with the image. If I right click and open the "zoomed" image up in a new window, I get the full hi res version.
