Somehow I feel like somebody's going to refuse to orbit Halo. Just saying. Also note that's really a super-only way of hauling people around, as normal people won't have the grip strength and endurance to last a flight of significant length. I'm intentionally not making a statement about specific people who blur the line between super and non-super, because those people are not normal, even if they might not be supers. Additionally, I feel like this method of travel is risky for Sydney as well, because it feels very likely that people besides her won't be able to really get traction on the orbs, so they'll be very inclined to orbit directly under the orb, and thus bump into her at multiple times in the orbit. She wouldn't be able to use the shield to protect herself from them banging into her, either, because as I understand it, the other balls are always within the shield. Now, all of this having been said, I could easily see a situation where she's ferrying people with fly + shield, and finds a critical need to use the PPO *without* letting go of the fly ball. Say it's Achilles and Anvil. They're both probably strong enough to hold onto an orb or two for support, and durable enough to stand in for the shield. That would absolutely be an epic move and absolutely hilarious. Passengers couldn't include Hiro or Max, as they fly on their own just fine. Daphne would just teleport away. Mr. Amorpheous would be an interesting option there, because he could potentially carry other people, depending on just how amorpheous he really is. If he's holding onto three or more orbs, he can probably counteract the bit where they probably seem close to frictionless for people not Sydney, and in any event probably lack much in the way of gripping surfaces. Suddenly, so long as she stays low enough people don't need supplemental oxygen and slow enough that he's not bothered too much by the wind, she can carry as many as he can carry without needing to use the shield.

I JUST REALIZED THAT SHE COULD GRAB THE FLY ORB, HAVE OTHER PEOPLE GRAB THE OTHER ORBS, AND TAKE OFF WITH THEM IN TOW!!!!!!!1!!!1! I got really excited about this mental visual.

Think "hit" instead of punch. Hit the bag with an orb, like when she K.O.'d Math. The orbs might as well be bodyparts, since as far as we know they can't be taken from her, and function as long as she's conscious.

So her close in weapons suck... room to improve a little. Sydney carrys something close to the main battery of a battle cruiser as well with the pew pew orb. And shields to match... and the tentacle orb, and and. Glad to see her improving all the way round of the orbs are unreachable. Again.

Doug Northcote

Oh come on Sydney, everybody's pretty sure you're the glass-cannon of the team.

Tim

Just remember, Sydney has mastered the grappling art of tongue-fu. https://grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-42-unconventional-judo/

And this is after she's been doing phys-ed for a while. I can't imagine how low the mark would be if she did it when she just started.

MaxBigfoot

Jabberwokky cleavage tattoo is way less colorful in the current images than when she first appeared. At first I was unable to see it and only after a lot of study of the images I realized that the shadow on her cleavage was the tattoo. I did prefer the older effect.

What I find amusing are the padded walls in every shot except the one showing the cracks. The cracks are a great visual gag, so this machine is actually in a side room for testing, not the rough & tumble martial artist area. It's just adjacent, so the difference in wallage in different shots. Which is Dave's intent, I'm sure. But I had to work it out - slightly more pull- back in one of the shots might have established that better, but the close-ups are more fun. ;)

AlpineBob

I do like the cracks in the wall behind the Punchomatic 6000. I imagine there is like 5 meters of reinforced concrete behind it, otherwise Maxima would just punch it through the wall.

The dark grey and light grey at Dragon level are probably Stalwart and Hiro, respectively.

On to really important questions. Obviously the Punchomatic 6000 retains a record of who hit it and how hard. Just as obviously, the gold triangle at the Maxima level is the record of Maxima's punch. Can we figure out who the other triangles are?

You are correct. Obviously the manufacturer of the Punchomatic 6000 have never been punched by a Mantis Shrimp.

arent mantis shrimps the strongest boxers in biology? or did i confuse them with some other crab like thingy

martin leske

1) It's a big ol almost gold thing in the middle of them. Looks like maybe an eagles head or something Zoom in 2) and no, it's correct because if they include the space vacation then she hasn't been at work for quite some time, while if they don't include it then time just would've stood still and then she'd still be less rookie than tattoo-lady. (if they count the trip then she had months to get less rookie-like while Sydney did not)

Pro tip: "principles" in this case.

Stephen Gilberg

Phah! Punching is overrated. It was usually a later session when I taught Women's Defense in the 90's.

Town Crier

I think anything added below bunny would have to be fluffier and not actually able to throw a punch. How bout Tribble?

Andrew

And Coney Or Kevin Dewclaw.

Thisguy

Hey, bunnies can kick ass, just ask Monty Python

Martin Croft

Two questions: 1) Cleavage tat? I don't see a cleavage tat. 2) Is panel 3 phrased properly? Shouldn't it be "If you DON'T include..."?

Andrew Denton

What we don't know is that they're going to have to modify the power measurer to include Sea Cucumber after this; Bunny was being generous. The good news is that the orbs will handle, probably, 98% of all fighting related situations.

Michael Obert

History shows that our hero is more successful by pulling the opponent's tongue or kicking their sit-upon. Or whatever those alien-behinds were.
