Before anyone asks, "All of whose powers?", that is the first line on the next page.

My first question is, how did she discover this powerset? Did she get a summer job at a home and garden shop that just happened to be owned by someone who had the super power to till soil with their mind. And was also evil, I guess. She specifically said "supervillains who hire me" so maybe it only works with bad guys? That would be my second question.

Hench Wench is a Patreon cameo character from... actually I didn't ask if she wants her name here, so uh, stay tuned maybe. Anyway, she didn't give me any instructions for the cameo beyond the name, so I came up with something that honestly might be a little overpowered, but she seems like she'll be fun either way.

Max might need to talk to Heatwave about not trying to immolate tangos. Or suspects. I'm not sure what Arc-SWAT calls people actively criming. "Suspect" seems like you're not sure if they're guilty. If they're actively punching your teammates, a more proactive term might be appropriate. "Tango" sounds a little terroristy, but can also mean target, so I guess it's okay.

Depends on the definition of "villain". If it's the original definition, it just lets her detect those of noble (including royal and imperial) birth.

Some Ed

What if she's hired by the Twilight Council: does she only get the super powers, or does she get all the powers? Or some other subset which probably includes all of the super powers?

Some Ed

If she was hired by archon she would have Max's powers. If she's hired by two people with the same powers...does she get both? Does it double? Square? Cube!? What about gadget heroes? What power does she get if she's hired by tony stark? What happens if someone tricks her into working for a baby? I have so many questions!

Grimfox

Scary comment... Trump would actually be useful here "you're fired!"

Martin Croft

Imagine if she worked for archon

Zip Zop

That's the inner lining of her skirt, which fell on her head, because that was easier to figure out how to draw than her head and all that hair.

Dave Barrack

ALSO! You have no idea how much I love that her powerset could probably be abused and thoroughly manipulated by a good Rules Lawyer into some silly nonsense. Great work, per usual.

O hey, it's me as Hench Wench! This is the best day. Also I'm totally chill if you wanna put my name in there but if it's effort for you IDGAF. Thank you so much for all you do for us!

The real question is "How does that not just dislocate Heatwave's everything?".

RanmaChaos

I love Hench Wench so much. This is a wonderful power.

BJ

I had to re-read this a lot. In panel 11, it looks like her hair is pink, not brown, and I kept trying to figure out who it was.

Andrew Denton

...holy shit.

Bharda Sullivan

Definitely "Not in the Public Interest". Meanwhile, if our heroes can get her to tell them which of these villains actually hired her, then force that one to tell her she's fired...

Foradain

Sadly, she's only a part-time employee, so no other benefits like insurance or a 401k.

Ryan C. Thompson

I now fully expect Sydney to take one look at Hench Wench and bitch-slap her to Kingdom Come.

Churchill (formerly TeaBear)

Hench Wench reminds me of another webcomic character...

Andrew Diseker

Max is gonna have to get the techies to grab a screenshot of Dabbler getting sucker punched. For training purposes obviously 😈

Brett

Hench Wench's enemy is the judge which will dissolve the LLC because it was specifically incorporated for a criminal purpose β€” or any con man who can convince her that such an event happened.

Richard Penner

Sooooo. What happens if they stiff her on the bill?

Paul Rendell

Technically the power of the legal contract (and the powers she gains by entering into such a contract) derives from her superpower, not the other way around.

Aclys

Well she Did just start her participation in the battle by explaining to everyone how her powers work... Even For Whom The Death Tolls wasnt quite as melodramatic as try and pull that kind of bonehead move.

Aclys

well the question there is if she instinctively knows how they work or if she got a run down from the others, besides the more obvius str power up

Otoger

I'm thinking she's more on the tier of For Whom the Death Tolls.

Stephen Gilberg

Catch her, and put her to use. What a great way to find out what powers various heroes might have.

Town Crier

SDM? Super-Duper Max?

Town Crier

Sydney yells, "Hey, Henchwench! Catch!" Sydney tosses a quarter at the villain, who instinctively catches it. "You're hired!", says Sydney. Henchwench goes down easy, because Sydney has only mundane powers of her own. Henchwench, not being on meds, has serious ADHD issues in SuperMax Super Prison.

Town Crier

I think her weakness might be that she's not very bright...

Noise

Seems like she probably gets less power per person the more people she serves, and she probably only gets their powers at half strength to begin with.

Jon Gibson

I sincerely doubt that she's actually limited to gaining powers from villains... just anyone who enters into a legally binding deal of employment, gaining authority (which one imagines she has to obey to keep) and powers respectively. I say authority cause otherwise she could just use bullshit contracts like "by speaking my name you have entered into a legally binding (for her power that is) contract of employing me as your henchwoman, thanks for the powerup!" And THAT would be completely overpowered. As is she's basically vehemence tier except she actually needs people to cooperate on purpose.

Aclys

Her superpower derives from a legal contract? WTF...

akrasia

If it really is "only villains", then she's an excellent way to identify infiltrating heroes: Everyone hands her a fiver, and then you see whose powers she doesn't get

James C

Wasn't hench wench used as a descriptive in The Rules of Supervillainy by C.T. Phipps?

Stan

I feel that if you can put her on the phone with your marketing department she might suddenly lose all her powers.

Justaguy

That sounds like the kind of legal loophole lawyering that Sydney excels at dealing with.
