  1. Sydney really is talking to someone.
  2. She's thought about what she'd do in a situation like this and is being weirdly convincing about it.
  3. She's cracking under the stress, despite putting on a collected front, and really thinks she's talking to someone.
  4. She's debuting the first scene of a play she's working on.
  5. All of the above.

The full Skilltree is thus:

  1. Ambivilize an Adversary
  2. Baffle a Baddie
  3. Confuse a Criminal
  4. Distract a Delinquent (or a D-List Supervillain)
  5. Embroil an Evil-Doer
  6. Flummox a Foe
  7. Garble a Grifter
  8. Helter-skelter a Hooligan
  9. Imbroglize an Illicit
  10. Jumble a Jailbird
  11. Katzenjam a Knave
  12. Lead-astray a Lout
  13. Mystify a Malefactor
  14. Nonplus a Ne'er-do-well
  15. Obfuscate an Offender
  16. Perplex a Profligator
  17. Quagmire a Quincunx (I just wanted to use the word Quincunx)
  18. Rattle a Reprobate
  19. Stump a Scofflaw
  20. Tumult a Traitor
  21. Unsettle an Unscrupulous
  22. Vex a Villain
  23. Welter a Wicked
  24. Xenotransplant a Xenophobe (You come up with something better)
  25. Yarmulke a Yobbo (In my defense, this would confuse many people.)
  26. Zig-Zag a Zealot

Looking back at this -- we still haven't answered the question of who/what she is talking to, or how it appears to folks who can see it.

Joseph Kesselman

I feel like it's going to turn out she's talking to Dabblers handler X, It's been a while since he made an appearance, and Dabbler was on the scene so it'd make sense.

Andreas M. Sørensen

I know that Sydney has told no one about her glasses but Dabbler is best friends with the person that gave them to her. I just have to wonder if the glasses have a failsafe that activates when she says Dabbler. Then I have to wonder if she is aware of it or not and just accidentally set it off.

Mark Nach

Should we let Dan know, or just keep it to ourselves?

Foradain

Faking, schizophrenia... the line is so thin.

Tom wilson

yep, there must be a built-in panic button! Probably in the bottom-right corner, next to the recycle bin icon.

Evgeny Sandu

I'm only like 50% convinced she's faking

Zip Zop

I think she legit may have forgotten also, last time I recall them being used was when Frix sent her a text. https://grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-827-peaches-and-pics/ ...and there it is in the commentary: "She has no idea how to respond… by which I mean she doesn’t know how to use the interface to send a message back." Unless there was a later reference to the glasses, it's only relevant if Dabbler knows she has them and sends info. ...also, that might have been just a day or two ago in comic time. It's hard to tell.

Richard Riley

Her glasses. Any device that can see your pistol shots and give you a reticle overlay as well as send and receive SMS/MMS, is something that can be used to give location and pictures to others. Concretia took Sydney's phone, but it wasn't the *only* communication device she had on her.

Andrew Foss

Putting the "Chaos" in Chaotic Good.

Town Crier

Dave, your commentary is putting Dan Shive to shame.

Stephen Gilberg

Allright men.. Confuse thee.... cat

TikkTik

I'd legit forgotten about those "upgraded" glasses of hers.

She's laying down the cover story for giving the cavalry real time updates, which the AI in her glasses is currently calling in. Now she can say any goddamn thing she likes, and they'll all think she just has a screw loose.

akrasia

If you dislike the comic that much you can just stop reading.

Marc Vun Kannon

I'd say all of the above, except I don't think she's doing 3 or 4, and you don't have a 1 & 2 option. I really hope the orbs are talking to her, though. I can definitely see this being a scheme, and Sydney will end up being as surprised as anyone when they show up in three minutes.

Marc Vun Kannon

I'm kinda hoping they take her at her word, put a round through her head and leave.

L Pedersen

Now that's what I call good RPG skills. They do come handy in certain circumstances. (I remember intimidating a group of villians into backing-off during a live RPG, mostly because I didn't knew they were attackers. ;-)

Thomas Dorner

X-radiate or Xerox a Xenophobe?

Andrew

This is so in character for Sydney, I love it! (I also hope it's real like "Happy".)

Stan
