Grrl Power #985 - Big bodyslam diplomacy

Thanks so much for your support! Like, seriously, you guys.

Maxima is not often invited to diplomatic events. "They" learned early on that she only has so many knuckles to crack.

Assuming Tom is 90 feet tall, he would weigh... (one quick googling later) Huh. Not nearly as much as I would have guessed. Roundabout 260 tons. Assuming he's of a similar composition as a human, of course. I really thought it would be something like 7,000 tons. I don't know why, a blue whale only weighs about 200 tons. I guess my exponential-math-in-my-head-cortex is out of whack.

I like panel seven, because it makes Tom look like a demonic version of Beaker.

Tamer: Enhancer 2 – Progress Update:

I finished the last chapter! Man, the fight went in a super weird direction for about 10 paragraphs.

Now... don't be mad... But the chapter was pushing 10K words and I wanted a little wrap scene, so... There's going to be one last chapter. I think that's 4 or 5 times I've said that I'm starting on the last chapter, but this time it's probably not a wild underestimation. It'll be short.

I've seen Aikido practitioners throw people by lightly grabbing one finger. If the throw-ee is poking them it makes it easier. Come to think of it, the person being thrown had much the same reaction as Tom.

John Anderson

I'd like to see a version of panel 6 without the "one-finger flashback" overlay.

John Anderson

I would expect him to weigh less than the 260 tons- a lower density would compensate for the third-power increase in volume with height.

John Anderson

Hah! Called it...I mean, we all knew it was coming. It's like Hades sticking his finger in baby Hercules' face. That finger gonna get wrecked. 😏πŸ’ͺ😈 Now the best part: THOOOOON! Bring it on, brother. A wrap up chapter ain't no thang. Can't wait for TE2 to drop. πŸ₯³

I'm looking forward to finding out if Vehemence is patiently waiting off-screen or if he's used this opportunity to make a break for it. Bodyslamming a giant demon by his finger is more than enough of a distraction for him to make a clean getaway.

NathaN

I like the reference to "A Knight's Tale" in this one. :D

Jared Juetten

The bigger they are, the more it hurts when they hit the ground.

eddi_TBH

That square-cube law is in fact a bitch

Andrew Park

Max went for a minimal energy solution. Much more impressive.

eddi_TBH

Max gave Tommy boy the finger. I love it.

eddi_TBH

She's on approach.

Dave Barrack

I laughed out loud! Then, nitpicker that I am, I wondered where Maxima is in panel 4. Isn't she supposed to be right in front of his face?

MaxBigfoot

It's cartoon physics, same reason Superman can pick up a bus by its sheet metal body and throw it intact. Trying to apply Newtonian physics to toontown does not compute.

akrasia

"Do you two mind? I am trying to have a moment here." I laughed. :D The comment about the corrupt and squabbling institutions being ours is pretty much the response every people has ever had to a foreign invader coming in and 'saving' them; yeah, maybe you could run things better (but I wouldn't bet on it), but no matter how well you run it, you are still a foreign invader and nobody wants to be ruled by an invader. I think the movie Ghandi had a very specific line to that effect, not sure if Ghandi himself ever actually said it IRL.

Eric Loken

I remember some issue of Spawn where the hobos had to drag him somewhere, and they had real trouble doing it because necroplasm supposedly had the same specific gravity as wet cement.

Afunnythinghappedtome

He would weigh more than 260 Tons, but no where near that 7,000 Tons figure you thought. Remember, he can't have the same composition as a human because then the lower parts of his body would squish under the weight of the upper portions of his body. I wouldn't put him past 400 Tons though. As for the Blue Whales only weighing in at 200 Tons..........don't forget that their bodies are predominantly horizontal, not vertical, so they don't need nearly as much strength and density to support their bodies, and they live in water, which means that their entire lower side, rather than just a few limbs, is aiding in supporting them and they don't have to deal with nearly as much counter-pressure against the lower portions of their bodies to remain supported.

Anton Schleef

Whoops. Uh. Hmm. Guess I should change that so computers don't get confused.

Dave Barrack

Let the pride go, Tom. You're not bad enough to get a full strip of the fight-- hell, didn't even get a panel. She off-screened your ass, and no. Flashbacks don't count.

Ren Griff

The little details... First, Maxima's ears are PERFECT. Not to mention whole under the chin shots. You've done your studies and whole page looks awesome!

Tomek Kowal

He needs a ring of stars floating around his head..

Belgrath

Not as gory as many of us envisioned.

Stephen Gilberg

"You have been weighed." "You have been measured." "And you absolutely..." "Have been found wanting." "Welcome to the New World. God save you, if it is right that he should do so."

Chase the Dragon

Tom's getting the "Knight's Tale" treatment...

William Elliott

Doesn't Max have some kind of energy field around her? Maybe that held Tom together as he flipped?

Marc Vun Kannon

I loved the rendering of poor Tom looking up at the three ladies. Not sure the hair was hanging quite right but it's an unusual angle. Nicely done. Dabbler looked more demonic than usual.

Marc Vun Kannon

Good Golly, Tom!!! Surrender now, before that super-hen-party on your face grows! With an ex-girlfriend involved, the only thing that could make it worse, is if your mom showed up.

Town Crier

The fact that his finger did not snap off given his size and implied mass suggests that he's made of far more durable stuff than your average human, ergo probably heavier than one too, proportionately.

Aclys

It's the whole dang 3 dimensional thing, if we lived in a universe with 4 spatial dimensions it would be even worse

Martin Croft

Not just Max. I mean, sure, she's hands down the most powerful being on earth that we know of but she has hinted at at least two other, (still living that is... it was strongly implied that she, and government level conflict, was responsible for that number being smaller than it otherwise would have been), supers out there who at least come close to her power level, but who are working with other governments. Also, there are a couple other members of Archon who are pretty epic level problems for someone like this guy, AND there is the Vengence fellow who effectively opened that door for our new friend to come in through in the first place. So all of these alien types are going to have to come to grips with the fact that Earth, as a whole, in this comic universe is a much more dangerous place than they previously thought it was.

FeyOne

To quote Atomic Robo Tesla, "Why do we even *have* the Square-Cube Law?"

Rens

Uhm, the comic name is dated December 04th?

Dan Jones

He's either a lot lighter, the same with higher strength to weight ratio materials, or he's so damn dense and hard that he doesn't break under his own weight at that size.

Justaguy

Things I hate about Daylight Savings #4. My webcomics update later.

Thisguy

I’m sure eventually these off worlders will get a gauge of Max’s true power… And come on Max, Sydney and Dabbler are having moments as well. It occurs to me that this is perhaps the Power Trio of Archon. I think Sydney just edges out the likes of Hiro.
