Grrl Power #1002 - Windtalkers

Thanks so much for your support! Like, seriously, you guys.
Yes, of course we'll meet Sydney Sr. in just a bit, but he's probably getting autographs or something.
Sydney got in trouble a fair amount growing up, and her and her mom eventually developed this disciplinarian semaphore so Laura could scold her daughter without needing to stop other conversations. Also, they can have obligatory "How was school?" / "Fine." conversations without actually needing to speak.
More parental insights to come.
Tamer: Enhancer 2 – Progress Update:
It's basically done. Like a dozen more paragraphs. I might even finish it tonight depending on how long this page took to post.
You should have had a shot of Maxima's eyes under each panel as Sydney and her mother did their non-verbal thing.

Considering that Sydney is 27, it seems completely reasonable to me that her mother has aged gracefully.

Is it just me, or does Sydney's mom look like she's in her late 20s, early 30s?

We saw her make a phone call when she got back from her big adventure. But I think that's it. Apparently Sydney has at least a +3 Dodge family conflict skill.

Two geniuses in the family makes for an interesting relationship.

I'm thinking a texture line, although why Dave thought it necessary he would have to explain.

What is that mark on Laura's nose and why is it missing from panel 7?

...and then Syd finds out mom is a government vivisectionist...

I guess they haven't had that "discussion" yet about why Sydney didn't tell them about the orbs until after the Grand Opening of Archon--with her featured--got broadcast on national news.

I'm Orca, and I approve of this message.

I’m imagining Sydney senior is like a really exaggerated version of Nigel Thornberry, right down to having either a British or Australian accent.

So, Sydney actually hasn’t seen her parents in person since before this whole thing started?

That should be "she and her mom."

This was an absolutely great strip. It captures the reality of "Family".

I'll bet that on occasion dinner time can be interestingly tense between these two.

So, Mom is the rock in this family. I bet she has a hidden side wherein she can cause more trouble than her husband and daughter combined. Bet Sydney's seen it and considers Mom her "Dark Lord of the Sith"(In a loving way); whereas, Daddy is her "Jedi Master". Mom probably can bake a Double Disaster Chocolate Lava Monster cake with jalapenos, and then stare down an irate high school principal until they calm the eff down. Of course, Mom plays the cleric in the family adventuring party.

And Max realises that despite being a Leiutenant Colonel, and Sydney’s CO, she will never be able to have the complete deference Sydney gives to her mother.
