As for male fashion attire, there have been periods where it's been just as uncomfortable. E.g. wigs with powder (admittedly that was both sexes). Or the cavalry breeches so tight you can't bend over without splitting them. Obviously you had a servant to pick anything up. Or the long pointed shoes. Which needed to be tied to your legs. Or for that matter, many versions of the cravat which became the tie.
