Grrl Power #1206 - Demon days of... whatever season it is

Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

Sorry about the word bubble octopus there in the first panel. Please no one tell Scott McCloud, or I'm certain I will be added to his List, and he and his presumed gang of comic luminaries will track me down at a comic convention and shiv me.

My guess would be that demons would be either into human slice of life stuff if they have a xenoanthropological interest, or saccharine cutesy stuff like My Little Pony or Adventure Time or whatever - OR - they'd be into stuff with demons in it so they could have a good laugh at all the crazy stuff humans think demons get up to.

Has anyone ever done a story where a demon gets possessed by a human, (probably by accident, I imagine) and the human has to navigate the demon world and pretend to be a demon, and go to his demon day job and hang out with that demon's friends in order to not arouse suspicion and get a crack team of reverse exorcists put on his trail? Cause I would probably read that. I mean, a humorous version of that, not some grimdark version. It would be a unique isekai, that's for sure.

BTW, I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but Kill 6 Billion Demons is a fantastic webcomic that has insane, Sergio Aragones levels of detail at times. And somehow the guy doing it still has time to get physical books printed up, so naturally Sydney's comic shop would carry it.

I have a cool surprise for you. It turns out, after doing Azumanga Diaoh, which, weirdly enough is one of my favorite animes, Kiyohiko Azuma went and made a 15-and-counting volume manga about Sydney as a 5 year old.

Okay, obviously, he didn't do exactly that. But he really very nearly basically did. It is called Yotsuba.

^^^^^ Yotsuba looks like this, and is a proper ADHD poster child.

Here is a link to it on Amazon.

And here is a link to a scanlation site, which I kind of feel like I shouldn't link, but it's not like you guys don't know how to use google and honestly I want you guys to check it out and be like "Yup, that is eerily Sydney-ish."

I feel like I'm late to the party because I just noticed the manga on Amazon is listed starting in 2009, but I just found this and am enjoying reading through it.

Dance with Devils is an anime musical about devils trying to rule the world in a reverse harem (look up Cerberus Song). Chillin' in My 30s After Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army is a fantasy comedy about a demon grunt changing careers.

Jose Rosa

FUN FACT: Azumanga Daioh's anime adaptation is the anime that coined the term Waifu, nearly 20 years ago.

Tristan N Milner

Just started reading K6BD, thanks for the recommendation! Very reminiscent of the art of Moebius, in the best possible way.

John Winters

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun. That is what you are looking for in reverse demon fiction.

Matthew Paulin

Galactic nerds. Yup. They're gonna either make, or break the conventions.

Town Crier

Like the Halo Hat.

Town Crier

How about GrumpyTG's - A Little Bit of Magic - the current story arc has a human sent to hell while a demon occupies her body. She has to deal with being a in a demon body and working as a demon in the hopes no-one discovers she is a human soul. As in Hell human souls are currency and Human Souls are worth mucho dinero.

Ampws

It wouldn't surprise me if some demons were just like "Hey cool! Demonic representation in comics!" And then just... Not care that demons are shown as the bad guys because it's just a fictional story, get over yourself it's not a big deal. That would be hilarious to me, like, imagine someone trying to get offended on behalf of the demons and the demons thinking "That's stupid. This is just a story. Why should it bother me. What, you'd rather they DON'T include demons in stories at all? Now *that* is racist."

Teksura

I love Azumanga Diaoh and Yotsuba&!. I even gave the latter away as gifts to get more people to read it.

Stefan J Neylon

or Retired Demon King on Webtoon, where the Demon King goes to the Church Academy to learn about the "power of Love" the Hero Bullshittet him with and needs to fake Holy power and live through prayer and so on

Otoger

Great shoutout to Kill Six Billion Demons! Such a great webcomic!

The Fire Piper

I'd forgotten about those books! I need to see if any of them are available on Audible, as they'd definitely be worth it. Aaaannnndddd, it looks like I'm going to have to do some digging as to what the correct order for the series is, as Amazon doesn't have them tagged as a series. Great, now I need to try to remember the URL for a website that I haven't used in roughly a decade, or hope that I get really lucky and that Audible has them listed as a series.

Anton Schleef

You mean like the anime "Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun!"? The MC, Iruma, is adopted by a powerful demon to be the guys grandson and to attend to their school (so that the guy can brag about having a cute grandson). The catch? He can't let anyone know he's actually a human, as they'll most likely eat him. That was the first thing I thought of when Dave was describing his idea for a demon possessed by a human story. Sure, it's not the same thing, and it's only tangentially an isekai, but I feel that it perfectly fits what he's asking for, especially as it mostly stays light-hearted. Personally, I'm really looking forward to it's fourth season (yes, there are already three seasons available on Crunchyroll, though it started on Funimation before their merger). Not to say that I'm not also looking forward to another season of "The Devil is a Part-Timer!" as well, I really want to see how they finally fix the worlds and restore the World Tree (ever since their 'daughter' was introduced it has been obviously building up towards that).

Anton Schleef

There's also Robert Asprin's Myth series where Humans and Demons are mythological beings to each-other and the wizards of each group will ofter summon the other for various reasons.

Joshua Brumley

There's an anime called "The Devil is a Part-timer!" And it's where the devil comes to earth and works in a fast food restaurant named MgRonald's as a burger flipper. That's sort of the "normal" version of your story you asked about. But yeah, I think a story where a person accidentally gets into a Demon's body would be great. Subverting expectations would be the KEY!

Jared Juetten

Arc-SWAT merch store slash recruitment center.

Martin Drkoš

Sounds like a case of the "Mexicans Love Speedy Gonzales" trope.

Stephen Gilberg

Fun fact: 4chan adopted Yotsuba as an avatar very early on before replacing her with anonymous.

Christopher Agnew

Yotsuba is so good. I could definitely see Sydney running around in her own Danboard costume

Matt

This will be addressed on the next page.

Dave Barrack

She's actually the Archon Merch salesgirl.

Dave Barrack

Well that's very confusing.

Dave Barrack

So, uh, is the veil just toast now?

Torabi

I love that there's someone cossplaying as Halo

Fogel

K6BD has been a trip.

Jathby Dredas

Demon's are into crime novels, I mean, Graphic crime novels. Who knew? Oh, wait, they like violence and don't always care about the victims lol

Michael Obert

Kiyohiko Azuma is a guy.

Evil Midnight Lurker

Similar to Yotsuba, but with a more powerful imagination, I'd suggest "Ryushika Ryushika".

Jacob Mitchell

If you want a school-days version of that story theme you mentioned. Try Mairimashita! Iruma-kun

Justaguy

Gotta love seeing one of my favorite comics referenced in another of my favorite comics.

Matthew York

If you want a good demon/human romance novel to stock, I suggest 'Pleasure Unbound' series by Larissa Ione. ;)

TRwolf2k

Manga being what it is, I'm sure that something resembling your query must exist by now.

Madcat6204

I think demons would love superhero comics. Hellboy, Etrigan, and Spawn would be basically demonic supers, right? (I realize Spawn is human, but.. technicality.)

Eva Unit 3

Not possessed but Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is about a kid being sold to a devil, who adopts him and sends him to school, where he has to blend in in order to not get killed

Damian

Is it bad I want a workplace/slice of life in a post demon/alien world comic for their comic store now.
