Grrl Power #1230 - Side hustle

Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

So I'm experimenting with doing fewer panels without cutting down the content too much, or at least the dialog. It won't work for every page, sometimes the dialog will be better served with back and forth expressions and reactions, but I felt for this page, it's a guy talking to a fire-eyeball, so it works out here. We'll see. So far it saves me a little time, though I immediately filled that time with more involved coloring than the previous page. Hopefully I'll find a balance soon and get caught up on those pinup incentives. No, I haven't forgotten about them.

Daniel Shinhofen's newest book is out, Aether's Revival 8. I just got it so I'm only one morning walk into it so far but it's on track to be another solid entry. This is his "cultivation but without all the deep trappings of the Xianxia genre" series. I tried to read the Aleron Kong "The Land" series a while back, and I couldn't make it through the first book. I just couldn't get myself into the mindset of the feudal Chinese villager bowing and scraping and honor this and saving face that. It wasn't for me. But AR is good. There is a harem in it, but, hmm, how to put it. It's slow burn at first, and while the size of the harem grows kind of quickly after that, it doesn't look like it will get as out of hand as it did in his Binding Words series, which I also really like, but honestly for reasons other than the harem stuff.

To be honest I'd almost rather stay with these two until Lapha manages to return after having suffered greatly in Sydney's mind, and demand a turn in the tower for herself. Let her nightmare on Earth remain a thing of dark legends, but no one will dare go after Sydney that way again.

Get thee behind me... and keep nudging.

Every good impossible mission team needs muscle. It helps if they're smart too.

eddi_TBH

College dorms are indistinguishable except for sports merch and posters.

eddi_TBH

I wonder if the college gets the BBC and Saron eye has been inspired by "Hustle" (that was a fun con artist show) and perhaps "Leverage" as well.

SeaGull (aka FriendlyFire)

Saron eye is right, a comfortable win beats a desperate (albeit thrilling) struggle 10 times out of 10.

IvyReed

Given the comic, the first line did not mean what I thought it did.

Nathan Fish

Yeah, I found Google hits, but nothing explained it.

Stephen Gilberg

YSOABII?

Erin Palette

Oh, I think this is going to be so much fun. Also, I'm in the middle of AR8 as well. Solid series, for sure. I can't wait to get to the Solstice in the book. Also also, I'm still betting the orbs follow Sydney's soul, not her body.

Gelatinous Cube

I love this story line. Last panel, middle speech bubble "You really THINK something like that is possible?.

Edward Justice

Isn't Stockholm Syndrome supposed to be something the prisoner suffers from, not the jailer? If anything, I think attending a demon college rather than a more ethically aligned college may help her out quite a bit here, especially once she gets done corrupting him into being her accomplice in assisting some of those overly wealthy individuals with their rounding errors.

Anton Schleef

I like the "No" poster playoff on "Yes"! Even a quasi Roger Dean background!

Goner

Maybe I'm speciesist but I couldn't tell that the other body wasn't her original one.

Martin Drkoš

Typo in the last panel, thing instead of think. Make that error all the time.

Triad Draykin

Mind, the Leverage team makes a *point* of making sure that the mark knows what was done to them and how badly they managed to screw themselves. That's part of the fun.

Rens

Her last statement brings to mind that old saying, ”One mans scraps is another mans feast.”

Tim

His partner may come back from an hour of torment in Sydney's brain to find herself low man on the totem pole.

Marc Vun Kannon

Is that class called Leverage 101?
