Grrl Power #1279 - Punchy McPunchface

Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

Math is one of those guys who punches iron bowl full of hot gravel every morning. The skin on his knuckles and the back of his fingers is like the sole of an elephant's foot. He also does a bunch of other crazy Shaolin monk training, like sitting at a table without using a chair, just by flexing his foot just right, or climbing a rope using just one hand, or whatever. You've all seen Kung Fu theater on Sunday afternoons, haven't you? This assumes you grew up in a world where there were maybe 7 TV channels. One of your local stations that didn't get a license for whatever seasonal sports game and wasn't PBS would either be running syndicated sitcoms or some Kung Fu movie.

I mention that because Math is used to hitting things like Altus. It still hurt a little, but at least he didn't blow out his wrist or dislocate a finger.

I just recently started playing Parappa again and my sheer glee at seeing someone else reference Master Onion was intoxicating! So many times I've chanted that flow while doing some meaningless task and just got blank stares from others around me, while trying to explain some obscure PS1 rhythm game from the 90's earned me so many tragic pity points I never wanted. "It's like Paper Mario and Patapon had a baby with Guitar Hero and then Xeroxed it through a shitty toner cartridge and had a 4-year old color it with the crappiest snot-soaked crayons from the bottom of the coffee tin."

in panel 4 i feel the round speedlines are missing a direction, all others i can see some hints or points which show the direction but the round part of panel 4

Hasn't even touched Sylv yet!

Now I'm picturing Bugs Bunny verses The Crusher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6h4SuMWliQ

Who thought being drunk off your ass could be incorporated into a martial arts style? See also Ranma 1/2 for creative martial arts. The School Of Indiscriminate Grappling.

Remember the prisoner Kirk kneecapped in movie? "Not every species keeps it's reproductive organs in the same place."

eddi_TBH

Reminds me of the Op Art movement when I was a teen.

eddi_TBH

Well, he hit them all first. With varying degrees of success. Now the fight begins.

eddi_TBH

Huh... Who would ever thought a dance from the 1920's could be usefully incorporated into a martial arts style?

JasonAW3

Math's secret is that he's not fighting, he's dancing the Charleston. https://youtu.be/90TzDXjWTdo?si=zvKSZAAp_2c_XQqm

Thanks! That one took a while to figure out how to do.

Dave Barrack

In frame two... Knees don't typically flex or bend that way... Of course loosened ligaments COULD account for that... And as for bone breakage someone probably reinforced his bones with carbon nanotubes, kind of like steel rebar in concrete columns...

JasonAW3

And he has massive traumatic arthritis, bone fragments that move around, places they can't pin or plate, hands that he can't fully open or close, and spends weeks out of every year in a walking cast.

Todd Ellner

Gotta find his weak point. Usually related to reproduction... HOPEFULLY it's not below the belt in his particular variety of... demon?

Brett Peirce

Oh, the text below rather than the comic itself. "Kick! Punch! It's all in the mind!" is one of Master Onion's training phrases. I had forgotten I even knew about it till I read it here.

Richard Bennett

... meaning that was a held back punch, and someone just earned the title of punching bag... ^_^;

Zerith

Which part?

Stephen Gilberg

Nahh, Math smashed Concrete Lady. Cinderblocks are no problem.

Person

Oh, I love the circle speed lines in panel 4! What a nice touch!

Greg Morrow

... Math is a high level martial artist, he has likely, in effect shattered every bone in his hands and feet. His limbs are also likely heavy broken up to and a little past his elbows and knees. Fun fact! Everywhere you brake your bones, the fused area is made stronger, but the net effect is weakening the bone as it focuses the stresses the bone suffers, unless there are soo many fusion sights that the spider webbed net work of bone fusion sights makes a matrix, then and hence fourth, the every time the bone breaks and heals it simply becomes stronger. Also, the less you use a bone the more it decays... I think math hits things enough that hitting Rocky McRock in the face amounts to unexpected training. Also, abusing your skin can toughen it. So, yeah, in my book, math is more pounderus than hurt by that full force punch.

Zerith

I really thought Matt was in for broken fingers or a broken wrist. Hitting a wall with his one’s hands is never a good idea…

strfan

Parappa the Rapper reference! I claim my bonus point :)

Richard Bennett

Impact no good captain! Switching to grapple!

Matthew Thompson

Time for a change of formula. . .
