Grrl Power #1290 - Double date

Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

This page was intended to move things forward a bit more, but then I got distracted by the idea that these four a sort of on a double date. I mean, not really, but they are kind of acting like a pair of old couple-buddies.

Eating bones requires that the thing you're eating the bones with is stronger than the bones. I've never done A/B testing on live bones vs. slow cooked smoked ribs, but I assume non-living bones that have been simmered at 250 for six hours are probably a lot more brittle than living, human teeth, but it's still not something I would bet my molars on. Not only that, it hurts like hell getting the pointy end of a nacho chip jammed into your gums, so I can only imagine what it'd be like getting an inch of rib shrapnel spearing your soft palate. So, it's safe to say that Woof mouths are probably quite a bit tougher than a human mouth.

Rib bones are weird. They are particularly hard for their cross section and have pretty low marrow content. Good narrow bones are limb bones. Long cooking times meals harder, more brittle bones that tend to break into needle like shards. Source: I’m a chef with lots of time logged smoking ribs and making marrow bones as appetizers.

I think he's laughing too.

All four of them now.

The bigger the species, the bigger the bones they can crunch. Hyenas developed it as a specialty.

It was funny enough, but then I hit the panel with our lizardy friend breaking out the tongue action, and I guffawed!

Just for reference a couple of years ago my mom made slow cooked ribs and they came out so tender that my baby brother bit through one of the ribs like it wasn't there. He did complain that the bone did not taste good but he did completely bite through it

My Mom's old boss had the wonderful habit of cracking bones when they'd get chicken at the shop. Didn't help much that he was a big, jowly, ginger, heavy on the Irish ancestry. Dude straight up looked like an old bulldog worrying on a chewbone.

Being abrasive and prone to shards doesn't necessarily affect the sound. Bones have a fairly distinctive crack when they break, sometimes sticks can get close, but for the most part of you've heard a bone break you're likely to recognize the sound, and if you've *had* a bone break in a way that you heard, it likely left an impact on your mind.

Mmmmmm, fiber...

Dr. Otter

was just about to say this! Great minds and dog people think alike

If there is a company costume party they can go as Legosi and Haru.

Tooth enamel is in fact harder than bone. Also cooked bone becomes brittle and prone to shattering into sharp pointy shards, which is why you should only ever give your dogs raw bones to chew on.

This is good. Sydney needs someone that can get her thought processes almost immediately. You know, one that can hang out with her, rather than be stuck in a dark backroom as most nerds are.

Is the crunching of bones any worse than the crunching of the cereal of the Cap'n? I mean, it tastes good, but that brand of cereal is designed to abrade the roof of the mouth. Even when soaked in bovine glandular secretions.

That's why I don't like original street-food Thai chicken curry. They just chop the whole roasted chicken into curry-sized chunks, bones notwithstanding.

Thomas Dorner

Its primal, the sound of breaking bones is kind of a death sentence to animals.... or an awesome meal. Depends where you sit on the food chain.

Mathew Aaberg

I had a high school friend that would shove a handful of sunflower seeds in his mouth and just chew and swallow the whole thing seeds shells and all.

Peabody

Marrow is delicious. I completely forgot Sydney was pescararian when she started seeing Frix! Hilarious Vegetarian/Meatatrian comedy!

Michael Obert

Girl I went to high school with would chomp chicken bones. The sound really did cause a Bad Shudder.

Laura Light

Man, you can't take those two anywhere.

Tannerbot

He’s not wrong the marrow is delicious, gotta just crack it and suck it out.

TrixieTurner

Ah, yes, alien tongues, the ladies' favorites XD
