Grrl Power #1293 - Ambivalent leg syndrome
Added 2024-09-16 10:00:08 +0000 UTC
Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!
Dabbler knows medical stuff. She can do stitches, set a bone, mix up some alchemical nonsense to soothe a burn, even whip up a variety of healing potions. Reattaching a limb? Brain surgery? Organ transplants? It's not like she can't do that stuff - she is an otherworldly genius tinkerer/enchanter/inventor, but... she'd need a pretty comprehensive reference guide, or at least she'd need to bone up on the procedure quite a bit before hand. And there might be some necessary follow ups to tweak whatever she didn't get quite right the first time around.
I know some people consider sitcoms pablum for the masses, but as Sturgeon's Law clearly states "90 % of [X] is crap, then again 90 % of anything is crap." So yeah, there's a lot of formulaic and bland stuff out there, but IMO all the ones Sydney references in panel 2 are among my favorites. Though to be honest it's been an age since I actually watched the Munsters or Mr. Ed, so I don't imagine they hold up quite as well anymore. And shows like Red Dwarf and Blackadder aren't really sitcoms or sketch comedy, but they have laugh tracks, which I know drive some people batty, but they're top shelf comedy in my book.
Oh, and as far as Dabbler hoarding body parts, they're mostly alchemical ingredients and trophies. Trophies like the skulls of impressive kills, not a necklace of ears or anything squidgy like that.
That kiss implies a lot more than friendship, so Cora/Peggy seems like a sexy certainty.

Frix: "I have just the thing...how about 'Adventures in cohabitation in a high end communal apartment building' ?"

So, Dabbler's Hammerspace is more of a limb space, and if she get's upset she pulls out a random limb to hit the guy with? (it's always a guy)

It's going to be a tough decision. I think she's going to ask at her therapy group.

Definitely sisters from another planet.

Maybe. I'm sure we will find out a proper comedic moment.

And Frix looks seriously worried. He's probably seen her go off like this before.

I was a kid so the romance kinda went over my head. Still funny though. And even funnier when my parents imitated them. I learned the Lurch groan just express my opinion.

Sydney's run-on sentence nearly achieved warp 2. Frix realizes he may have triggered a train wreck.

Yep. Xuriel offended by the hint she's not the pro from Dover.

She’s gonna wake up with superhuman legs tomorrow just so Dabbler can prove a point.

I'm thinking it's because Dabbler has *prosthetics* instead of reattached limbs. Peggy's new leg is a vat-grown replacement, not a prosthetic

I've never seen Blackadder, but Red Dwarf is the perfect example of a comedy show.

My bingo card has that in a special side category: Impossible Things That Would Be Absolutely Awesome. They don't count towards a bingo, but their still worth making not of.

Yeah, I noticed that as well.

Yeah, they relationship is unquestionably one of the best parts of the show, and I haven't heard of one since that does it as well.

Not to forget to mention, Gomez and Morticia were portrayed as a genuine romantic couple. Groundbreaking!

The OG Munsters hold up surprisingly well. Slapstick is timeless. The satire and topical humor of the original Addams Family is the one whose humor is slightly dated. But that show is worth watching in reruns for the performances alone, and the scripts are still clever, even if pop culture references are now lost in time.

I really like the second panel of this one. Sydney looks really animated.

Can Sydney now understand at least some alien languages without a translator after that whole memory thing?

I was envisioning more of a French dip with marinara, but if Dabbler was going to have a hot dog, she'd probably go with a full kielbasa with cheese and mustard.

I mean... from what we know Dabbler has at least a cybernetic hand/forearm and an eye. Both of her own creation and presumably installation... I'm guessing her problem when installing prosthetics Other people made, in Other people, is her urge to make some last-minute improvements and add a few undocumented features?
I find it difficult to imagine she hasn't had enough practice with it to do a perfectly passable job otherwise.
PS: Is it just me or do Peggy and Cora look like sisters?

Peggy and Cora had already gotten it on on Peggy's space vacation. That's nothing new

It's not easy to both shock AND offend Dabbler, so mark that one on your bingo card...

I'd say she's taken offence to the comment on her limb reattachment skills.
Also, I'm pretty sure they already did the first time they met.

I love the range on Peggy's face through this. All the feelings.

Trying to interpret Dabbler's expression. If she looked happy or excited, I would say shw saw the kiss and hopes that means Peggy and Cora are gonna get it on.

"Crud". As Sturgeon himself said crap can be used as fertilizer. Crud is by definition useless

Is there a word missing in the first speech bubble in the last panel? It's currently, "Though if decide you want..." Should it be "Though if you decide you want..."?
