Magnet update

Hey guys from now on we are going to be switching to 10x2mm from 8x2mm magnet size. We had some feedback on our magnets and we belive that this extra surface area will help. You should still always hot glue elastic to your piece so you parts don’t hit the ground now.

That said some of our stuff coming out will be 8x2 and some will be 10x2 as we transition. Like usual read the corresponding posts for more information

The membership page will need updating too, it links to a 8mm listing

Im several thousands (maybe 10K+) deep into Trymag with zero issues

Michael Anthony

I use a paper towel holder and a small nerf football as my paint stand. The metal from the holder is easy to clean when there is a build up of paint and I get it all at dollar general for about $4

David Wagner

I think for most an increase in depth would do more good then surface area increase. Having more depth will increase the strength of the magnet

David Wagner

With these I only use 50% of the magnet spot and the hold like crazy. https://a.co/d/4URsI0r

Look on MakerWorld. The are rotating stands perfect for that. https://makerworld.com/models/573769

Christian Vargas

TryMag are only good for little things like DP eyes. Im burning the ones I have just on that. And since they are weaker its a bit easier to switch the eyes out.

Christian Vargas

They've been OK for me. A few are chipped in the packaging, but I'm 600 deep so far πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Honestly not a fan of this change, 8x2 has become the standard magnet size across most STL vendors and it just means more money spent overall. I can still use 8mm in the 10mm holes but it wouldn’t look as good.

James Perkins

Nice!!!

Joel

Thanks, i love to hate Amazon, always nice to have s reputable vendor

Well Armed Ogre

Thanks for the link, found between my printing to densly and the trymag i got they dont work all that hot. Way too loose

Well Armed Ogre

Awesome

Don’t use the brand Trymag not good magnets and sadly none of the sellers on amazing actually list them as N52 for any of them in the USA.

Sell bigger quantities: https://www.web-magnets.co.uk/collections/discs-8mm/products/magnets-8x2-mm-n52-grade-neodymium-discs-8mm-diameter-x-2mm?variant=49560806359349

Ben Mehrtens

Cheapest for lower quantities up to 100: https://magman.co.uk/product/n52-8mm-x-2mm-disc-magnet-1-16kg-pull-force-copy/

Ben Mehrtens

I'm in the UK and use a few different places depending on the quantity I need but all seem to be just as good. At typical consumer quantities I pay around Β£13 per 100 but have recently gambled on alibaba to buy a load in bulk at a third of this price as I'm churning out loads of your wolverine masks at the moment πŸ’›πŸ˜… ipl send the links to the websites I have used in the UK, but as long as they are listed as "N52 Neodymium (NdFeB)" magnets they should be the same strength

Ben Mehrtens

Any chance you can create a helmet stand to help when spray painting the helmets?

Giovanni

True I can print Inserts to make it look pro and the larger holes allow me to scale smaller so I guess that's good

Mikey

That's fine. Can realistically still use 8mm in the larger holes. People just need to buy better magnets not the rubbish off Amazon. I only use about half the magnet slots anyway with the ones I've got otherwise I wouldn't be able to get stuff apart πŸ˜…

Estel

do you have a link for the magnets you get?

Mitch Massey

do you have a link for this?

Mitch Massey

Just get better magnets. (https://a.co/d/45EwIJI ). Making them bigger is a good idea, but the actual quality of the magnets also plays a big role. If they are bigger but weak its not much of a change since they will also add weight especially if the helmet has a lot of parts. Better magnets allow me to use only 50% of the magnet spots and I can look down and even headbang a little.

Christian Vargas

I've just been using 8*3 in most cases. But huzzah for bigger magnets

Absolutely Dahling

With the n52 magnets I have I can't even pry the eyes off deadpool I actually needed to buy a weaker grade for those πŸ˜…

Ben Mehrtens

The magnet holes will be bigger. You can still use 8x2

PokeTheBuilder

If we have to deform the magnet slot then it will compromise the structure and might not hold anyway or we will have to use smaller magnets if we scale down which is what most people will have to do. So they wont be able to use 10mm again and complain further πŸ˜…

Marios Panayiotou

The n52 hold like crazy. Deadpool coming girl for example snaps shut with a vengeance

Mikey

No lol I just bought 2000 n52 8x2

Mikey

Same haha but its ok

Carlos Ortiz PΓ©rez

Damn, I've just bought a tonne of 8x2mm magnets. Never had an issue, 8x2 was always perfect as long as you buy the correct grade magnet strength πŸ’ͺ (N52). I suspect people may still have an issue even with the 10mm if they buy the same grade? 😬

Ben Mehrtens

I bought 1000πŸ˜‚ but i scale down so i will probably still use them

Marios Panayiotou

unfortunately no that would add a extra work for us. the best thing you can do is use a dermal to make the hole wider

Mitch Massey

yeah my deadpool(new movie version) i might have did too many walls as last one(previous version) cracked when dropped and if i shake my head it comes apart , can you adjust a few of the old favs , cause i would reprint with better magnets forsure.

Clint Ortner

On one hand it's cool, because some multi parts prints are indeed quite weak (like the deadpool 3 for instance), on the other hand I wonder what I'm gonna do with the 200 8x2 magnets I bought for your STLs...

Fabien Pohl

Would you consider making the hole a bit bigger too? Like 11mm? Because most people will scale down (if its scaled to 24inches for 100%) that means it still wont he 10mm for us with less than 24inch heads

Marios Panayiotou

Great idea!
