2020-01-26 21:53:44 +0000 UTCIt's actually no unheard tbh. I used to live in Phoenix, AZ. It's a huge city in the middle of the desert. There were a lot of "medium" sized areas/cities that popped up around it, and the desert itself is a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains. I'm sure there also big and medium cities in mountainous areas as well. Ashevill NC has a decent size population, unless a city size of 90k residents is considered "small" lol I think any of those locations can have a small medium or large town/city.

2020-01-26 20:12:07 +0000 UTCThe things here are just stuff you'd want to see generally, it's not really about determining the core theme of the area. For example, if it's a big town but people want to see a mountain there could possibly be one that's viewable off in the distance or there could be an event where the characters take a trip out into the mountains. The town itself wouldn't necessarily be on a mountain itself. You can pick whatever kind of thing you happen to like, anything that does make it into the game will be included in a way that makes sense :].

The location (at least on patreon poll) seems to sway more towards medium sized town and I have hard time imaging half of this list integrated as a theme with it. A beach theme with the first game is interesting. The theme of Cove loving surfing and things like those is really nice. But I can't imagine a medium city in the mountains. Like, would the main characters be town's mountain climbers? Maybe my imagination is at fault but I honestly don't know which one of those would fit the setting.
