2023-03-19 00:42:22 +0000 UTCI was more hoping to focus on Derek BECAUSE we didn’t see him for years. I wanted a heavier focus on learning about him, not his family dynamics. I went into the DLC thinking I was going to learn more about Derek and the development we missed while MC and him were apart and about the man he had become. I just didn’t feel like we got enough of that to even find romance in it like we did with Cove. Yes, Cove is with us a lot so of course we know more about him but we don’t have that one-on-one as much with Derek and that’s what I wanted to see. It’s fine that you don’t like the romance but the game has romance as an option. I didn’t feel that option was very present for Derek because there was so much time spent with others in Part 4.

I don't often like games that only focus on the romance interest(s), as then it's like none of them feel fleshed out if there's not other people around. If you went into Derek's DLC expecting his brothers not to be a big part of it, I feel like that was your own mistake, as they were quite open about it. It's like getting the time to focus on Cove's parents; it made me appreciate him much more as a character. And since it's a DLC--never mind a totally different situation where you haven't seen each other in ten years--you really can't expect the same level of interaction between the MC and RO. This game has never been just a romance-oriented one, but more like a visual novel life sim that includes romance if you want it. That's just my two cents though.

2023-03-18 23:32:46 +0000 UTCThere is emphasis on the grooms, and on Terry and Miranda, and Xavier has time, and some other characters show up as well. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Derek's story, you don't have to, but things haven't been changed. The game has always been made on a system where about half the scenes are just with the lead and about half include other characters significantly. It did for Cove overall, it did for Derek overall, and it will for Baxter overall. Maybe it felt like more because it was Derek's family almost all the time instead of a more varying cast, but the proportional amount of one-on-one time is on par with other DLCs/base game chunks. Baxter will also follow the pattern of one or two scenes with him and then one or two scenes with other characters. In S3 he had more time alone because he was entirely new, but overall it will equal out since by Step 4 he has more relationships.

2023-03-18 19:53:40 +0000 UTCIt was one thing to spend time with Derek’s brothers in part 4 but there was more of them than there was of Derek. We had one moment in part 4 of Derek really being open about his feelings. The rest was family. I would have preferred in part 4 was him becoming more independent as a person. There were times, not exaggerating, that I forgot Derek was in a scene because there was so much focus on everybody else. It was HIS DLC not the Suarez family. I wanted to learn more about Derek specifically and spend time with him alone now that his brothers were independent young adults. But we didn’t get that.

2023-03-18 19:32:52 +0000 UTCI didn't really feel that issue in Derek's DLC, most likely because of what was said above - that his brothers are such an important part of his life and what makes his personality. So it felt natural. Now, I was not subscribed to the patreon yet back then, so I can't really talk about the experience back then when waiting for that DLC. But from where I stand, I feel like it's normal not to have that many Baxter pictures right now compared to the other characters simply because they are new characters. We already saw Step 4 Baxter in game, if we have the mariage DLC. So while we are shown new outfits and what not, there is not a lot more to see in terms of previews. Of course that's just me speculating.

2023-03-18 19:14:14 +0000 UTCI really loved the brothers but i really did wish we had more Derek 😅 but i don't think it will be the same, the brothers were a BIG part because they were really important to Derek as a person, his whole personality was shaped around them 🤷♀️ Baxter... not so much, we had him and only him in step 3 and i think the 4 will be the same
