It's the 5th of the month and that means the question thread is going live. I'll answer the questions posted here near the end of the month. It'll be done in a voice recording with a text transcript to go along with that. Feel free to ask me what you're curious about for current or future projects or the company in general, as long as it follows the guidelines!
Guidelines:
1. Please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer. The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly.
2. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices/art assets Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing Step 1. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.
3. The questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.
4. Please keep the questions here to things that wouldn't be really hard to tackle in an off-the-cuff, spoken out loud kind of Q&A, aha. Questions about a half dozen characters or wanting an entire theoretical situation described aren't super doable in this situation.
You can always send me questions outside of the audio Q&A if they wouldn't work here!

I been going down the rabbit hole that is past game you have announce working on. After playing the Wedding night DLC of OL1 for the 3rd time, I have myself a needed break by playing one of your other beta game, Floret Bond, which I enjoyed a lot. I want looking to see if anything was going one with that game but find nothing on it past February of 2019. This got me looking of other games that been worked on but stop for reasons I'm not sure of. Could be cause you started mainly working on OL1 or grew tired/bored on working on those other games. Are you ever going to go back to Floret Bond, Eyes of the Echo, and XOXO Reunion? They all look very interesting to me to and would love to play them. Also, is there any bate of Eyes of the Echo, and XOXO Reunion that could hold me over for the time being...?

Will it be through all the steps? I assume whether you hold onto Qiu’s papers vs giving them back to him will have ramifications down the road? Any hints about that? Thank you again for all of the hard work you do on these game. The characters are so dear to my heart. I can’t wait for more story with Qiu!

Also, I was really hoping for some fun facts about Opal. I love her so much and she has really become my favorite adult character. Will there be moments that deepen the MC's relationship with her? In OL2 I noticed that when Qiu was explaining why he wanted Tamarack and I in the Boys Club, Baxter was first smiling but then once Qiu mentioned he thought I was pretty, he stopped smiling. If that was intentional can you please explain why he did that? For background context I did have my relationship set with Qiu as crush. I also noticed that when I played the first moment in OL2 as well, we decided to go to the special place first and once Baxter saw us he also didn’t look happy once again. 2. I’ve seen this asked before in previous Q&A’s so I apologize, but I needed more context if possible. I am set as crush with Qiu, and Tamarack and I are friends. I have intentions of pursuing my romantic route with Qiu going forward so I understand it’s best to say he’s our best friend and not Tamarack because we should prefer to spend more time/be closer to our crush, but does that mean when Tamarack mentions to her granny that we are best friends and then mentions it to me in the backyard that she’s serious about being bffs, I need to choose a choice that mentions I don’t consider her that close to me so that Qiu is my best friend? 3. Building off of the bff situation, if it is true that i need to choose choices to pursue Qiu as my bff and not Tamarack, then should I be choosing moments to only hang out with Qiu alone at times, such as him going out to dinner with my mom and I? I’m a bit worried because I want to have a good friendship with Tamarack and I’ve been making a lot of choices to mention Qiu, such as the diner scene and how I’m happy to ride on his bike with him etc, instead of choices such as, being happy to just be with tamarack and Qiu and not just Qiu and inviting both to the dinner? I’m worried I’ll have a bad relationship with tamarack if I don’t involve her in more choices. I do make choices where I mention she’s so nice or I’m grateful for her friendship etc. but I mainly try to pick Qiu related answers. (I apologize for the lengthy questions I gave you and the amount of questions, thank you tremendously for your time!)

Are Cove, Baxter and Derek, jealous people at all, when they date the MC? A specific situation to throw in there is, let’s say a person who was familiar with the love interest (who were dating the MC individually of course, and not a poly situation), such as a coworker or close acquaintance, mentioned that they found the MC very attractive and or had a crush on them, without being aware the love interest was with the MC, how would they each react and respond? 2. How do you think Baxter feel about sharing money with the MC when they’re married? For example, let’s say the MC has a job that brings a lot of money, way way more than Baxters job, and the MC is really big on the view that her money isn’t just hers and Baxter can feel free to spend it as he wishes? Of course the MC isn’t someone who spends money mindlessly just because she has it, but does treat herself at times and has nice things, and I don’t see Baxter spending it mindlessly either, but do you think he’d feel comfortable spending the money as well especially with knowing how the MC feels about sharing money?

2023-08-12 05:55:51 +0000 UTCHey Kab, hope you're doing well! My question is regarding Qiu and their relationship to ballet, especially in Step 2 when they're still questioning their identity. As far as I know, classical ballet can be pretty gendered - choreographies have designated male and female roles, and there's some differences in technique as well (such as male dancers not going en pointe on stage). Although from the little research I've done, I've read that more and more studios are taking a less gendered approach to teaching nowadays, and modern choreographies don't need to have these gendered roles. Is the dance studio in OL2 going to take such an approach? I'm by no means an expert on this so I could be wrong, and I'm interesting in learning if any of this will be addressed/mentioned in the game. And if so, how Qiu will feel about pursuing a historically somewhat gendered art form while themselves questioning their gender.

Can you speak more about the development of these - like how long do they take and what is the process in designing and developing? And any hints on future customisations?

Am I misremembering? Also in OL2 will we get the option to stay in Golden Grove as an adult, move out of Opal's house but not really move away?

In my playthrough my character is a guy -also born male- but at first they identify as a girl and told tam they were one too but eventually I wanted them to reveal they're a guy though in a later step. I was just curious if the cast would ever react to the player being a different gender than they thought at first. Like how would tam react thinking you was a girl this whole time and if if Qui is curious how come they told everyone they were a girl since the beginning, esp since Qui has his own discoveries about himself. When I first grew up I remember being told I thought I was a girl at first because I looked like my mother -same look and hairstyle- and kept thinking I was one until I got older. I was just curious how much would the cast react to the MC changing like that and if there are any unique interactions with Tam and Qui about that.

I could be misremembering, though I recall reading that Qiu would not want to date someone who considers themselves a sexual orientation that doesn't encompass potentially being attracted to someone who's genderfluid, but would date Qiu as an exception. For example, a girl saying "I consider myself heterosexual, but I'll make an exception for you!". Thank you again!

My question is: In OL2 you have the option of crushing on either Qiu or Tam, I think that if you’re crushing on one of them they also reciprocate the players feelings but is it possible for the other LI to have feelings for the player all on their own? Or if the player likes Qiu for example, will tam ever have a crush on the player? like how in OL1 Derek liked the player no matter what. Not sure if some of them have been answered or can't be answered but here we go. - Is Kyra's hair naturally two-toned or does she dye the ends of her hair? - Did Cliff already have the shop before the start of Step 1 or did he establish his business after the move? I remember Kyra saying a line that she "remembers the ropes" like she use to help him in the shop before. - For Step 4 mostly in OL2, is there any consideration to do more of a "fade to black" implication for intimacy? Like the makeout level we got in OL1 but then anything further just cuts to the next day or sometime later. - Will Renee have a chance of being a LI option in a DLC later on? - Does Franky and Opal have a canonical location they lived before moving to Golden Grove or will it be left in the air for players to decide where you previously lived?

Since she chose to be a single parent, how does she view her parenting and how will it kind of grow in the game?

In OL1, things like flirting, romantic/sexual touch, etc. are mostly initiated by the player. It's nice to place the control in the player's hands for obvious reasons, but in OL2 would there possibly be more instances where Tamarack and Qiu initiate flirting/touch?

I was wondering if we were limited to just one class or if we can take more than one? Like one extracurricular is on one day of the week and there's another on a different day so the MC can take both?

2023-08-05 20:26:11 +0000 UTCbit of a weird one this time When writing a new character, do you always start at their earliest appearance, and then come up with how they change and evolve as you go, or do you come up with a "canon" step/age, and then fill in the other steps later (For example, with Qiu, was their Step 1 version the first one created, or did you start with say, their Step 2 iteration, and wrote both Steps 1 and 3 later)

Like for example can you tell Tam your best friends in Step 1 but then decide that your actually best friends with Qiu in Step 2? Thanks :)

Question 2 - How offended would teen Baxter be at his edgy bad boy persona being made fun of/questioned? This has weighed on my mind a lot coming from a group of friends that would ruthlessly make fun of him for most things he says.

I figured since 2014 was the peak of the vine era, it'd be a fun question - Can Qiu and Tamarack cook or are they the kind of person that cant be trusted in the kitchen? I know Tamarack has an affinity for baking but baking isn't the same as cooking. - Who would win in a fight? Renee or a bear?

And for having this Q&A! ❤️ My questions: I know you only have so much of OL2 figured out at this point, but I wondered what you considered romance-wise toward each step, in general strokes. Naturally, when MC + Tamarack/Qiu are younger, you want it to be age appropriate, but I suppose I’m wondering if each step will be romantically significant, with consideration to its step/age, or if we’ll have to work up to it as a whole (- or a combination of the two!). Will step 1 be mild in that area or will you have pinnacles of like - hand holding or a kiss on the cheek, for example? Perhaps even ‘dating’ because kids, even at a young age, ‘play’ at romance - even if it’s serious, emulating what they see. Respectively, what are you envisioning as, general, romantic plateaus between steps? Do you think you’ll add more or do something different vs. OL1 — especially with two LIs to play off this round? (Thank you for answering what you can - I know that’s a lot! More so interested in your thought process than anything super concrete! :D)

Figured Derek wouldn’t mind baseball hats and Baxter is a fancy gent so he might make allowances for fancy hats. As for my question, in the tiktok about OL2 it says something about Qiu being sad in step 2, i thought they were just annoyed at that fase, not sad, so i was surprised... what are they sad about?
