Haha yeah, Baxter is indeed going to be the planner for the wedding with Qiu and/or Tamarack. It can't be helped. He would throw his non-existent wedding planner license in the trash if some other person got that job. He’s still very dramatic.
Though, don't worry, it's not another unexpected turn of events. Baxter appears in the normal version of Step 4 no matter what. 25-year-old B-Man is a brave boy who can make an effort to reach out to people he'd like to talk to (plus his parents spend most of their time on business trips or vacations and aren't hanging around that small town). The boy's club is getting back together with the (potentially) only person in it who is still a boy. Hallelujah.

I'm adding this little update to note that if you're worried this means the Wedding DLC will be just like the OL1 one, that's not the case. You won't be sitting in an office with Baxter and going through the steps in a formal way. Baxter will be a far more casual presence, the planning will be done in the family homes, and other people will still get to be involved. For example, if you're marrying Tamarack and are very close with Qiu, I'm not going to suddenly sideline the other lead and pretend they're not there. In that situation, Qiu will still be involved with the wedding planning for the MC and Tamarack. And the parents and stuff will be around, too.

When I saw Baxter talking to the MC from OL1 about his thoughts on his childhood self and his childhood friends, I hoped he would return to Golden Grove. So, it was really great to hear.

2023-10-19 16:31:43 +0000 UTCBaxter's story is that he's from Golden Grove and wants to come back and he's also a wedding planner, this was the plan before Baxter's DLC even existed. It's always been how it was gonna go. It'd be leaving loose ends not to do it based on everything that happened with Baxter's story and Qiu's/Tamarack's/Renee's. I wanted a character who could tie the games together and Baxter was the only lead option who had a life that could provide that. I personally like Cove and Derek more than Baxter, but there was no way to fit them into the role of "person who grew up in the other game's town". But no one has to play the wedding DLC if they don't like Baxter. I'm not trying to change your mind, just making it clear that this was my intention for the OL series. It's not a mistake or pivot, it's been my end game from the earliest development period.

The white man has gotten more screen time than any OL character and the fanbase around him has fetishized and sexualised him (Even in his step 1-2 selves horribly) in such an over-saturated sense that I doubt they actually like him for his real personality over this fanon one I've seen. I was really hoping he wouldn't play a part in the wedding, maybe he calls or something, just a smaller role. I feel like the only reason he has one now is because of those fan's being loud about it. People can respond to this but just know that I really don't want to fight, this is just the reality that I've seen while being in the private server for almost two years now.

Of course, you're welcome to not play the wedding DLC if it's something you don't like, but that is going to have to be the solution. As hard as I try to make the OL games customizable, there are limits. I have to write everything myself and I can't do everything that everyone would personally choose for their lives.

If someone can't enjoy that because Baxter is numbered among those people and has extra expertise to help, I'm am sorry for that but I can't see it as a bad thing. As for Baxter being the first to be shown from Step 4, that's because It's gonna be years before I settle on how anyone else should look in Step 4, but I couldn't keep him being the planner a secret for that long. People needed to know ahead of time as early as possible for the reason that not everyone would be excited about it. Everyone else can wait until 2025 to get their Step 4 selves.

Like hair length, glasses or not, muscular or not, etc. Which would upset some people if he doesn't look like 'their' Cove. Like if he turned up muscular, short-haired, and without his glasses, he wouldn't look anything like the Cove in my playthroughs, which would make it a little jarring to see that being his 'canon' appearance. If that makes sense?

And as far as the Demo show Tamarack seems to really enjoy him. Baxter having the same level as Shiloh doesn't make any sense. Shiloh was mostly just Lizzie's friend. Baxter is a friend of both the LI I don't think there is any character like that in OL1 someone who is friends with Cove but not the MC if chosen.

He’s not a major character in the way they are, and other side characters (Mom, Ren, etc.) are more involved and therefore it makes more sense to wait on their Step 4 designs. Who knows if they’re even being worked on rn! As far as I know, back for Step 3 design reveals, Qiu and Tamarack were revealed last because that just makes sense since they’re the main characters alongside MC. Being first ruins the suspense. Baxter isn’t as major and it’s a fun little announcement about the DLC :) Hope this doesn’t come off as rude! You’re totally free to have your own opinions, ofc

I would never ask for a new / different wedding to happen, but it does feel very forced for people who have mcs who don't like Baxter to begin with. It just feels like since he has a crazy fanbase, and he's shown up the most steps wise, it's like he's overshadowing the main love interests in the games. I love Tamarack and Qiu so much, but I'm genuinely uninterested in the wedding DLC now. I used to love Baxter, but the way he's been treated does not feel good to me at all. Truly, I would've rather him not show back up in Step 3 than this be the inevitable end-of-the-line. I would never fight the answer, especially one where a lot of work is being put in on every side. I hope everyone's work goes well, but if the answer is "It doesn't matter what one side of the relationship feels about a person, they're still going to be there anyway", it's not a good relationship in the first place. Also, as a side note, Baxter being the first Step 4 reveal also doesn't sit great with me, just because it's not supposed to be about him, it's supposed to be about Tamarack and Qiu.

In OL2, Qiu and Tam are his friends and have known him for years. And he's gonna come back no matter what. It would be very unusual in many circumstances that he just wouldn't be the planner despite that being his career. And there can't be two versions of the entire Wedding DLC. Since one had to be picked, the one that I'm writing is Baxter being the planner. Though it won't make everyone happy, it is the one that makes more sense to me. I would've had to never made Baxter a part of Golden Grove for him to not be the planner, which isn't something I wanted to.

I look at OL2 as not a direct sequel but just a game set in the same universe, with little bearing on one or the other. For me, a sequel to something has to be related to the original work in a major way, which OL2 is not really. You can easily play the second game and be fully satisfied without even glancing at the first. But yes, regardless, he is in a lot of the game if the right choices are made. It just doesn't seem like much to me since many people may not even see it.

I played OL1 because of OL2, that's the nature of a sequel. Otherwise, OL1 wouldn't be advertised in OL2's kickstarter. And just because you might not see him in a runthrough or someone might not play the game doesn't mean he's not there. Two things can be true at once. Baxter's content can be optional while also being in a majority of the games because of his staggering popularity.

Even when you play the walks demo you don't have to like him at all. it makes sense in OL1 that its random that he works at the agency you use so its accidental, but to seek him out here when you might not even care about the kid you knew for a bit as a ten year old is odd.

People might not want to play it simply because of a lack of interest in men or the RO options specifically. One of my friends wouldn't play it because they only like women and don't play games without romance, but they have played and do enjoy the second game's demo and will play it on full release. Again, I can see your point if they have played the first game, but if someone doesn't buy his DLC still barely any time is spent with him. You might not even see him in step 2 of the first game unless you make specific choices or play Derek's DLC. I missed it the first few times.

Also, while Baxter's DLC is optional, Baxter showing up in OLNF Step 1, 2 and now 4 isn't going to be optional. That's already 4 more steps including OLBA Step 3. So it is a big presence base game alone and now he's going to show up in the Wedding DLCS for both game, Derek's DLC and of course his own DLC. That's 7 major components of both games combined. I understand your point, but the fact is that OP is unfortunately right.

I like Baxter and all but it feels like he's got to be involved in everything, hes practically got more sprites than COVE, and like some people were saying if you don't have a good relationship with him it makes little sense to choose him as your planner. Having him as an optional guest like Shiloh and Jeremy feels more align with his role in OL2.

So it's not that big of a presence considering it's all optional.

I understand why he is but I honestly think the idea of a community-designed/DIY wedding would've been more fitting and a lot more interesting as a concept. Plus, as others have mentioned before, he already gets a lot of attention in these games already. Even before this, he was the LI who appears in the most Steps at 5 and now he's appearing in yet another one. It sort of feels like he's stealing the spotlight a little and, as someone who prefers the other LIs, that bothers me a lot

I love baxter but regarding the wedding i would have loved to just have him as a guest, he appears enough in the other dlc and in general in both games, ( if you combine the two he has a really visible presence…) a new character for the planner could have been nice.

The boy's club is getting back together y'all!! And since this is 25 year old Baxter, it's been a year since Step 4 of OL1 so he's definitely doing better as a person and I am looking so forward to the reunion of old friends I wonder if this Baxter will talk or reference his new squad of friends in California, maybe even talk about the OL1 MC and how they've helped him grow as a person. I'm so excited!!! Seeing a Step 4 Baxter design makes me hopeful for seeing a Step 4 Tamarack and Qiu design start making their appearances on Patreon
