If I love something I tend to get invested into it a lot and rtte and the httyd franchise is my number 1 love and I've been invested in it for like 1 year now hardcore so these things I discover after rewatching and watching yt vids and reading yt comments. I love sharing it with people because it gives them a new perspective on a "silly kids show" which in reality is so much deeper than what it appears to be. And yeah Hiccup is my favourite character of all time in fiction. Prince Zuko literally climbed his way up to number 2 because of ATLA omfg the dude is so incredibly well written I can't even. I've learned some facts and stuff about ATLA as well and I can explain all that to you as well once the Book 3 vids drop.

You don't know how hyped I was rewatching this shit last year for the first time in like 5 years omfg. I was so giddy by season 5 I couldn't believe it. The story had descended into being so heavily focused on the main plot and I was so into it. Like I think there's only like 2 fillerish episodes in S5, but even they're at least somewhat related to the story (Apart from Snuffnut which has 0 story relation) God I wish I could wipe my memory and rewatch this again.

2023-06-12 17:16:25 +0000 UTCAlright here I go. The last scene is VERY important for many reasons to the Hiccstrid fans, the series and its themes, and the characters as well. The entire drive for Hiccup, the reason why the edge exists and why these guys are out so far from home is for the Dragon eye, to retrieve it, to study it and to stop anyone from using it for evil. This had been Hiccups motivation literally from day 1. The quote he says at the end of the very first episode is "This changes everything". And it did. The dragon eye gave him something to do, something to put his heart into. His whole life is and has been dragons and the dragon eye was basically everything he could ever want. Everything he did and ever does is for the dragons. That's why even in this episode, he wasn't willing to hurt the Shellfire to defeat Viggo. His morals are that strong. But when Viggo came in between Hiccup, the dragon eye and Astrid, that was a turning point in his life. The line Viggo says: "Are you really going to sacrifice all the wonderful years you have together" made Hiccup think. His life has been dragons and the dragon eye, but at that moment everything changed. He's engaged to Astrid now, and of course, when it comes to choosing between her and the thing he's been fighting so hard to acquire since day 1, he'll always choose Astrid. Basically, Hiccup was willing to give up everything he had fought for in the past 8 months (the timeframe of seasons 1-4) and everything he could possibly learn and discover about dragons to protect her. This is the biggest sacrifice he's made in his life. Was it worth it? To him no doubt it was. He doesn't regret it a bit. And that's exactly why season 4's ending closes of with the exact same phrase: "This changes everything". It really did. If you want a comparison, that moment was the equivalent of Iron Mans sacrifice in Endgame. It changed everything. The gang has come a long way since season 1 in riders of berk and you can feel it and it feels well deserved when it pays of in a finale like this.

Usually I'm able to see through plots in stories, like even predict any bit, but in this finale, I couldn't predict anything, Couldn't predict Viggo ACUTALLY asking for help, couldn't predict Viggo handing the dragon eye, couldn't predict Dagur getting Sleuther (The triple stryke) as a new dragon, couldn't predict Viggo creating a last minute plan to use Astrid against Hiccup, and most definitely couldn't predict Viggo falling to his doom in the volcano.
