2023-06-26 00:37:21 +0000 UTCAnd can we take another moment to appreciate the cinematography in this episode. Literally in the opening, the POV shot from Hiccups perspective is SO FUCKING COOL. It gives everyone the most accurate feeling of being a dragon rider. I really wish they utilised it more, especially in the movies. And yes that flashback Stocik had was Drago. And if you pay close attention you can see Krogan was with him in that flashback. I REALLY love that they acknowledged his existence in the series before movie 2. It gives more genuine reason why Stoick isn't taking a half-measure and just preparing for a war. Also the tone of this episode is very serious. You can feel that the stakes are high, and that Hiccup is very conflicted as well.

2023-06-26 00:11:45 +0000 UTCAlright so here, shit hits the fan. We see a callback to the 2nd movie. We are in the same situation. There's a threat to deal with and it's putting everyone's lives at risk, but Stoick and Hiccup have different ways of dealing with it. Hiccup is looking out for the dragons and Stoick is looking out for his people, just like in the 2nd movie. However here, Hiccup manages to prove himself by being right by finding another way to defeat the singetails. This actually explains his naivety in the 2nd movie really well. He believes that just like before, there's a way to defeat Drago that doesn't end up in bloodshed, however as we all know that was the wrong call. He has to realise that even though it worked in the past, it may not always work and in the 2nd movie, it cost him his father.

2023-06-25 18:56:45 +0000 UTCOne scene is literally the characters using Hiccup’s prosthetic, the last physical remnant of his legacy, to distract a snow wraith by throwing the foot in it’t mouth. The dragon of course crushes and eats the last memory of Hiccup, and they even play a sad version of the main HTTYD theme. Literally destroying the legacy.

2023-06-25 17:02:18 +0000 UTCAnd the big dragon eye related retcon…in shell shock part 2…the dragon eye fell into the volcano long before viggo fell. And yet in this episodes flashback…they show that viggo HAS THE DRAGON EYE IN HIS HAND AS HE FALLS……..now if that’s not a retcon then idk what is. It doesn’t really break things to much….but…it does nullify the significance of hiccups actions, and the ending of season 4 somewhat…which is a writing mistake worth pointing out. But apart from that one thing I have no major issues with this show’s writing hiccups…
