qiu “Uh, so, I’ve got a list of the grownup’s numbers. My parents helped me make it.” 

qiu “I’m going to call granny’s husband.”

ren “No!”

“Darren gasped; Baxter brightened. Qiu always impressed, even when he made declarations while the [three of them/four of you] were squatted to the ground cleaning up a mess he’d made.”

qiu “Yep. We’ve got a phone right here!” 

“Still crouching, still gathering those pages, Qiu jerked his head to a side table behind him. There was a silver and black phone that was mostly squishy looking buttons and a teeny, tiny screen.”

if teasing/rude:

“Was this the Lin’s house or Tamarack’s grandparents’ house? Who had phones like that? Qiu’s parents had normal cell phones.”

“Did anyone ever call on that? Qiu’s parents had cell phones.”

qiu “That’s the point. I won’t chicken out. [One time I even tried breaking into his office! Calling’s gonna be nothing.]” #if slumber party

“Qiu snatched the papers hanging limply in Baxter’s grip. Darren and Baxter were simply in awe of the boy. He tucked all but one page into his pocket again then nodded decisively.”

qiu “And if anyone else isn’t too scared, you can make your own calls to people after. Or you can just watch me.”
