As a reminder, the transcript of the question answers will eventually become public! We'll automatically remove questions that are about things only revealed to the Patreon, like Project W stuff. If you don't want your question shared with everybody, you can leave a note in your comment to say so.

Here you can ask me things you're wondering about for our games or company and they'll be answered at the end of the month an an audio recording (with a text transcript too). Just make sure the questions long follow the guidelines!

Guidelines:
1. Please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer. The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly.
2. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices/art assets Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing Step 1. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.
3. The questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.
4. Please keep the questions here to things that wouldn't be really hard to tackle in an off-the-cuff, spoken out loud kind of Q&A, aha. Questions about a half dozen characters or wanting an entire theoretical situation described aren't super doable in this situation.
You can always send me questions outside of the audio Q&A if they wouldn't work here!

- On an recent replay, I noticed that Baxter says he moved to Prism Vista a year ago. I’m curious- what was he doing post-college but pre-Prism Vista? Where he lived, if he worked any other jobs during that, etc? - Does Xavier speak fluent French? - Do you consider the cast from the games you’ve made as OC’s, or characters? Its a distinction that seems to be unique to creators and I’m wondering how you feel about it!

First time asking- I was mainly curious about a moment in the prologue of OR 2 Step 1- after Opal explains to Tamarack about MC’s father, MC states to see Baxter and Darren seeming off with Qiu glaring at them like a parent catching their kid doing something bad. Only for them to quickly smile when they realize MC is watching- were Darren and Baxter reacting to this information in a way that Qiu disapproved of or was it something else? Also- I was curious about Qiu’s popularity. We get a moment in Colorful step where we have Austin talk about her crush on Qiu and we get a glimpse of how strong Qiu’s reputation is when they confronted Joey on blurting out Austin’s crush. Will we get more moments like this and would it possibly cause some drama such as Qiu’s struggles in Step 2? Will there be moments or mentions of others’ reactions when it comes to Qiu such as Qiu crushing on or dating MC? I was mainly curious because of how closed off Qiu becomes in Step 2 and when friends/crush- MC has a much easier time approaching Qiu than others do. Would that be seen effecting MC’s reputation or how other students will treat them in Step 2 whenever there’s interaction with the student NPCs.

I absolutely love Cove the moment I played OLBA so my questions will mostly center around our precious ocean boy. I actually sent an ask on tumblr way before my patreon support and that got answered so I deleted my earlier entry and this is the changed questions. Feel free to skip some questions as these are kinda compacted yet connected! Now for the questions… 1.) As a person who doesn’t really know how to cook, will Cove be okay in handling cooking for both him and the MC or will that be too much of a hassle for him? 2.) Would Cove, especially in a married life or targeted at Step 3&4, be okay with an MC that comes home late or is busy all the time? More specifically if the MC is still on the pursuit of higher education like being a doctor or lawyer— or a job that’s too demanding. Bonus points if the MC accepts to go on planned dates with him but cancels often because of unexpected changes of their schedules at work/education. Would he be mad or is that a problem for him? 3.) If the MC chooses to pursue their education far abroad like somewhere around Southeast Asia, would Cove be able to handle timezones and is it a must to call daily? If the MC is super busy and forgets to call, will he be irritated or will that cause his feelings to dwindle? I know some people require constant connection especially if distance is evident so I’m genuinely curious! That is all. Hoping the questions wasn’t too much and too hard! Feel free to skip this question if something similar has been asked before or if you just don't want to answer. In honor of giant isopods being one of my favorite animals, I was curious how Cove would feel about Isopods. Cove seems to have a general distaste for bugs (excluding fireflies of course), and though isopods are technically crustaceans they are often referred to as bugs (pill bugs, sowbugs, woodlice, roly-polies) but some of them are aquatic, I imagine that must be a little conflicting for our water enthusiast. Though maybe the dislike of bugs was just something I read into too much lol. On a very similar note, are there any aquatic animals that Cove is not a fan of? Like is her creeped out by deep sea creatures or anything like that?

Regarding the demo update later this year, would that be dropping around Novemberish? I know the time frame says around Fall, and the month beginning post says that next-next month (so Octoberish) would be when the Step 2 prologue would finish, so I was wondering if there was anything you could update us on now that it's fast approaching. Best of luck with this!! 2. As the OL2 LIs are moodier in Step Two, will they ever get outright upset, angry , or annoyed with the MC? Will there be another sort of 'fight' scene? 3. You said you might be able to confess/get into a relationship with the LIs at the very end of Step 2 in a previous QnA. Would it be possible in this scenario to have them confess first? Or would this be an end of Step 3 thing like in OL1? 4. Do both leads follow the same 'contesting/deferring/etc are the extremeties and teamworking/accepting/etc are options to generally be more neutral', or are there more dialogue alterations between them? 5. In the Step 2 prologue, MC notes that Qiu hasn't come out of their room in days, and they need to check that Qiu isn't dead and all. Despite this, Qiu says say that you see each other every day if you're best friends and you tell them you missed them. Is this a disrepancy, or is MC just being dramatic/hyperbolic in that case? 6. Both Our Life games have such thoughtful and real-feeling depictions of what it can be like to live with a single parent. Is this something that you have ang experience yourself if you're comfortable asking? As always, thank you for doing these QnAs and such.

I’ve always wondered if that’s true (might be a detail I missed haha) and why is that if it’s true (idk if this was answered before sorry😭). Also, hypothetically, if my MC wants to divorce Cove after their marriage, how would Cove respond to that? And after the divorce, what would his reaction be like, would he be able to move on? (I’m just curious, not that I actually want it to happen🥺)

Is that something that they regularly do, just hiding away for days on end? 2. If Qiu wasn't wanting to deal with the world or their parents, would they feel comfortable hiding away in the MCs room if they were friends, best friends or crushes? Or would they not want to impose? 3. Would Qiu like having their hair played with, or be willing to be the test model for different hairstyles, if the MC was fashionably inclined?

When the OL2 leads grow up and settle down, would they live closer to where they grew up or would they live somewhere farther (like another state or country)? 3. Sorry in advance for any repeat questions, I’m new! - Were Elizabeth and MC’s names given to them by Pam and Noelani, or their birth parents? Or is it up to the player’s interpretation/headcanon? - Do Cove, Derek, Baxter, or any other OL1 characters know/speak another language, and how fluently? Would they try to learn a language if their partner used it? - I feel like I know the least about Derek and it makes me feel bad haha. What are some of his other favorite things? Like his favorite color(s), snacks, workouts, places, etc. - What are the LIs favorite nonalcoholic drinks? Cove seems to like orange drinks, but is there something else or in addition? - Would Baxter be open to getting married later down the line in a committed relationship? If so, would he prefer to do the proposal himself or would he want to be proposed to? (Asking for a fic, just want to make sure I’m respecting Baxter’s preferences.) - In dance, does Baxter have a preference on whether he or his partner leads? He seems to have a fun time either way, but I was curious if he liked one over the other. - What are Baxter’s thoughts on romcoms? Would he like them or find them ridiculous? Would they know the feelings aren't mutual, or wouldn't be sure? Would they try to get over the feelings ASAP or just enjoy the feelings till they fade? Will there be human LIs available or will human NPCs be able to become companions/friends or friendly rivals of the Lumulle MC? OL2: When it comes to Step 3, is the nearest college/university be in the larger town where the MC got their smartphone, or is it farther off? Would our MC, Qiu and/or Tamarack have to carpool, or are they going to be taking online courses from home? Or is it be possible that campus set up in Golden Grove, so it wouldn't be such a long drive (i.e. 80 min.+ one way) when it comes to post-secondary education?

Our Life 1 is such a comfort game for me, and I'm already extremely fond of the inhabitants of Golden Grove. I've finished one playthrough of Step 1 for Our Life 2 and just started another. In Our Life 2, the personality system seems very intricate and the MC's reactions (that is to say, stuff they say or think on their own without the player choosing it as a dialogue option) is extremely good at reflecting the personality the player is trying to convey. Like my first MC was both very grumpy but also unsure of himself, and his reactions were often one-word sentences or seemed very hesitant. My second MC is very distant and laid-back and that shows in their reactions too. They usually don't make a big deal out of anything. Question 1: How many personalities are there, if you're willing to share? Do you have names for the different personality types, like "grumpy, unsure, laid-back?" Question 2: can an MC be a mix of different personalities? Or will they be a single certain personality, but if the player picks enough of a certain type of dialogue option, will their personality change? Question 3: Is the personality system in Our Life 2 more difficult and/or intricate to program than it was in Our Life 1? Thank you, and have a great day, or evening, or night.

I'm a firm believer of biting is a form of love language (I suffer from cuteness aggression.) I was curious how Qiu and Tamarack would respond to an MC friend/crush who would sometimes gives them the nip out of embarrassmentt/affection. Nothing to cause pain! Just sort of a real quick nom on the shoulder before letting go from a hug or a playful bite on the sleeve in a faux 'tug of war' situation? Would they think its kinda cute, be uncomfortable or just accept it as a 'okay, guess this is a thing that happens sometimes.' Hope that didn't come across as weird or anything.

So for my question, and I'm sorry if it's weird or has been asked before but, I personally have a habit of calling all my friends "bro" or "dude", and have heard differing opinions on it and adjusted, but that made me curious, how would Tamarack and Qiu react to an MC that does that, especially during step 2? And would it change depending on the relationship status?

Espically to David however for doing transcripts because often I'm at work when these Q&As come out, so I'm able to read during breaks. I have a question, my friend and I were debating about the Qiu step 2 doll, specifically the earrings. We compared both the doll and sprite versions and I have to ask... Are their earrings feathers or leaves? Or are we both wrong and it's something entirely different-?! :0 Thank you so much! And hopefully I am correct in assuming they're leaves? This is my first time partaking in a Q&A so I'm excited! I have a couple of questions, and if you can't answer them all, then that's okay! I don't mind :D. 1. I know that a lot of game devs have a character they usually have fun creating or favor while in production. So, I'm kinda curious to know, from all the games you've created (if you can remember, if not, that is okay!), which character you've had the most fun writing/creating? 2. You've stated before that you've been having a bit of trouble writing for step 2 of OL2. But, I'm curious to know what other areas/aspects of OL2 you've had a struggle with? 3. GB, as a game developer, what is your schedule usually like when it comes to writing for your games? Do you usually work on your games full-time, kinda like a 9-5, or do you only dedicate a small portion of your day to writing and such? That is all the questions I could think of hahaha. For David, who is a character that you like that you weren't expecting to grow on you so much? And do you have a favorite love interest in the Our Life and XOXO universes? And for GB Patch... I think I remember a couple Q&As ago someone asking about how Tamarack and Qiu's perspectives are with a MC they didn't have crushes on in Step 1 but now have one in Step 2, but I was wondering how the mentalities/perspectives are for a Tamarack and Qiu that had crushes on the MC in Step 1 and go into Step 2 retaining those crushes? And if it isn't too early to know, will the school dance be a DLC moment or something in the base moments? Final question here because I do love hearing about the creation process, is for all your games OL, XOXO, Project W, etc how do you to go about creating the love interests? Like how the general story line and prospective season went into the decisions that led to the LIs we ended up getting. They're all fun and wonderful and made with lots of love, so I'd love to know about it all!
