My thought process is that the mother is a fitness instructor/gym coach and did not take a maternity leave. Even at 35 weeks, he is still working, and it is obvious that he enjoys what he does. But when his husband finally lost patience with him and yelled at him for being stubborn and neglecting himself and the baby, the man returned home and took the long-awaited maternity leave, feeling defeated.
However there was a change of plans, Paul’s mother, who is in the hospital, is asking for them to visit. His mother has grown very weak and can bite the dust at anytime, so Paul, a good son he is, accepted the invitation. He didn’t want Daniel to come cause it was a 5 hour drive and he didn’t want to strain him. Daniel understands, a little sad that he can’t come.
