Chapter 11

“I…” He forgot. Bernard was standing before a woman so imposing, so majestic that he was dumbfounded.

This was a very inconvenient time, she´s obviously a body woman, and surely seems as one who´s got a short-temper. If he doesn´t recall why he came here, then she´ll get mad. He doesn´t want to find out how would it be to make a woman this big mad.

Adira looked down at him, her gorgeous eyes so big and bright, were of a red color. In the darkness of the room, they had a red-wine shine, never before he´s seen anyone who´s eyes were red. Not red as a result of the veins on them showing, no extra blood-irrigation on them. No, her eyes, the iris on her eyes, they were red.

It´s even diabolical! Her eyes are both gorgeous and threatening! And they are both looking at them, with all of her attention.

The leader seems so quiet, so easy as she patiently waits for him to find the words, but he knows, fears deep inside, that her patience will end up soon.

“I came here because… I was wondering…” How are you? How´s your day? What can he say? He needs to think on something, and fast!

She was intimidating, due to her size, and those eyes of hers were not helping. Everyone here seems to have a very particular eye-color. But that´s not the main point at the moment.

Aside of being HUGE, she´s also sexy. So sexy! Her body, her statuesque body, it´s the definition of perfection, so proportional, so elegant, so graceful on her movements. And those curves, so feminine and sensuous. He can only wonder how the touch of her skin feels like.

But that´s not what he has to think, right now, he must come up with an answer. Why is he here?

Why is anyone here? Why are we in this world? He met those questions as his brain dropped some very general excuses. A question with no answer, but at the same time, with a lot of answers.

He´s here because he requested to see her. No, he´s before her because he time-traveled into the future. Or, he´s here because Neo brought him? Is it too late to walk away? Maybe she won´t even notice him, she´s so big.

“My, you´re struggling, aren´t you? Have you not recovered from all that time sleeping? I was hoping you could tell me how that machine of yours works…” Adira said, sounding gentle and caring.

“No, I´m… well, maybe I could tell you later… but, now that you mention that, how long was I sleeping?” That was a great question.

It must´ve been days, since he´s dressed differently. Not too short as to be just hours, weeks sounds like a lot actually. So days sound about right.

“You were about to reach day number 3700, so… slightly over ten years.” She replied.

“Oh, well… TEN YEARS!!!” Ten? YEARS!!!

How did that happen? So long? That´s a whole decade! He´s much older than when he arrived.

He turned his gaze down, and then, he turned at his hands. How did ten years go by so fast? Well, time flies when you´re sleeping. But he was not sleeping, he was in a coma!

All that time, he´s been there for so long? Well, it´s not like he knew anyone here, not like the people he knew before he arrived existed at this time.

To him, his friends and family still exist, in the past. A time where he has access to, thanks to the machine. However, if the machine´s gone, then, do they still exist? He can´t say he´s stuck there, but ten years was certainly a lot of time.

He must look older, ten years older. It´ll be a major impact for people to see him this way when he goes back to his time. However, as he looks at his hands, he doesn´t see much of a difference.

His hands don´t look a day older. His hair´s not as long, nor he´s got a beard. But that could be just basic care from the people working at the hospital.

Now, isn´t that strange? He doesn´t even feel older. Maybe because he was asleep? But, still, even when you recover during your sleep, there´s no way you just stop aging because you were on a coma.

Cells don´t stop working, they don´t hibernate or pause when you´re sleeping. They still work, they are constantly in action. Creating new cells that will replace the old ones, which results in aging.

In fact, your whole-body regenerates itself, completely, after seven years. Therefore, he´s not even the exact same man he was when he got here. However, he does feel like the same, and not just the same person, but the same age.

But everyone feels comfortable in their own skin. He needs a mirror, to check on himself thoroughly. And probably, if possible, go back to the clinic for some further check outs.

“Yes, it´s been ten years, but don´t worry, we loved having you here with us. We made sure to take good care of you.” Adira replied.

No wonder why everyone was so excited to see him, they waited for TEN YEARS! It was a very long wait.

But, speaking of time, if Neo´s the one who found him, it means it´s also been ten years to her, right? Why didn´t she mention that before?

“I… appreciate all you´ve done for me. I truly do. I… I was also wondering, uhm… I fainted when I first got here, but now, I´m feeling good. Do you… know a cause?” Maybe it was a result of time-traveling, he fast-forwarded about a thousand years, it could be a side-effect.

A quick theory he had was that this suit was what kept him alive. When he got here, he couldn’t breathe, which resulted on him fainting. But he´s not so sure, maybe it´s main purpose was to send signals to the monitor at the hospital.

“Yes, you were not sued to the environment we have here. Our air is not exactly… breathable for you. But we fixed that.” Adira replied.

“You… fixed that?” How? He was not in a dome, the air he breathed was not purified, he doesn´t feel like he has anything inside his respiratory system, anything inside his body.

Or does he? Maybe they had some surgery done on him while he was asleep. And the, after ten years, he just got used to. Now, he doesn´t feel a thing out of place.

“Yes, we injected you a cocktail of chemicals, fortified with nano-technology, so that we could, let´s just say, give you a boost.” That sounds like a lot more than just a surgery. “At first, we had to put you inside one of our capsules. We´ve got these special capsules where the air´s pure, free of chemicals. Which we use for special tests. There, you could breathe.”

“So… the air´s toxic?” he asked.

“For you. Or at least it was. Sorry, but our world seems to be a bit more… polluted than you are used to. It seems it wasn´t easy for you to adapt to so many new particles in the air. But we fixed that. After several tests, we were able to get you out of the capsule.”

Capsule? Chemicals? What happened while he wasn´t awake?

Bernard couldn´t believe his ears. They´ve done something to him? And, speaking selflessly, the air was polluted?

People here adapted to this, they got used to this new world, probably full of toxicity, filled with places that can´t be inhabited. Probably this is the only civilization there is!

Evolution was probably the answer, a thousand years of evolution he wasn´t a part of. No one lives that much anyways, probably, at most, he could live through a hundredth years, therefore, he wouldn´t have met this future under normal circumstances.

But, back to the main theme, they´ve done something to him! Experiments, ran trials, they treated him like a guinea pig?

Being fair, they did what they had to do in order to save him. If anything was done in him, that´s because it needed to be done.

Was he different somehow? Probably, but the main thing must be that he can live in this new world. Surrounded by an air he couldn´t breathe, a weather that must´ve been so different. Is the earth cooler? Is it hotter? He was gone for ten years, well ten years in this new world, he´s been gone for a thousand!

Maybe this was for the best?

Adira can tell he´s thinking, she knows he´s a smart man. There´s no records of anyone doing this time travel, which means he´s a genius, a prodigy, one-in-eight-billion. That´s how many people used to live back when he was at his time.

Now, she´s looking down at a man who´s half his size, smaller than the women of the lowest rank here. He´s inferior, that´s all that comes to her mind.

So weak that he would´ve died within an hour here, if it wasn´t for their help, of course. And she wouldn´t have minded letting him be gone.

Adira wasn´t as merciful as she seemed. The problem was that someone else had found him before she did. And then, what did she do? What did Neo do? She carried him right into the middle of the city. Where everyone can see him, where everyone became aware of him.

And what was she to do? What was the great leader supposed to do? Show some mercy and help him.

That day, it was a very regular one. Until he arrived.

Suddenly, there was a commotion, everyone gathered in the center of the city without Adira calling for them. Everyone was looking at something, someone.

Right in the middle of the crowd, there was a man. No one knew what he was, he was much smaller than them, so different. Equal in many ways, and at the same time, so different from them.

But Adira knew what he was. As soon as she arrived, she gave an order. He must be analyzed. That way, they can “assist” him.

It was obvious he couldn´t breathe, Adira didn´t take long before she ordered for him to be placed inside a capsule, where he could breathe.

She knew what he was, but no one can know she did. Therefore, she commanded they should study him. All specialists began their research.

Adira was just waiting for the time when they admitted they couldn´t help him, and that he´d have to live his last days inside that capsule, since the air was basically poison to him.

However, there was something else. A question. Where did he came from?

It was some sort of vehicle, Neo drove them to it and told them all that happened.

He just appeared, that´s how Neo explained it. No sound of anything coming, and their radars could confirm it. It seemed he just appeared there.

Was it some sort of glitch? He couldn´t have come from beneath the earth, and if he had fallen from the sky, they would´ve known.

No, this was much more complicated than that. Adira knows, by the way he looks, what he is. But that seemed impossible. There must be a way to confirm that.

And then, they found this “gifts” as they all called them. All of the things he brought here. Where he explained he came from the past.

“If this works, hopefully it will.” He said in the video he recorded of himself before he time-traveled. “This means I´m in the future! If you see this, well… hi! Greetings from the past!” Of course, this video was only watched by Adira.

She kept everything he came with for herself. First, she´ll watch it, and then, she´ll share whatever she needs with the rest.

There´s no need for everyone to know everything, right? After all, she´s the leader, and only she should know it all…
