Witch Prejudice Lore
Added 2024-08-02 19:16:32 +0000 UTCAgain, sorry about how late this is! Anyway-
There are many prejudices Witches have to face, so much so that most Witches, in order to show that they mean no harm to society don't even take the name of "Witch" and voluntarily get tagged. Their reputation, depending on the magic they use, range from helpful to deeply malicious.
The belief led around Witchcraft is that the magicks closer to nature are the ones that are seen as "purer" and "of The God". Meaning that elemental, naturism, light all are seen as good, at least compared to the other three. Grey is next up, and can be seen as either a force for good or bad, as Grey magic handles death and life. There are the most closely monitored type of Witch, but don't let that cloud your opinions. When working with dangerous animals, you still make sure to collar the beast with the most venom, but you should still lock up the ones with sharp claws. All of the tagged Grey Witches instead go into working as doctors and war medics. Only the most skilled are allowed to work in anything to do with death, as in morticians and pathologists.
The most dangerously deemed of the Witches and are often hunted down by Witch Hunters, Blood and Dark Witches. Now, blood itself is just used as an amplifier. Only with lots of time spent practicing will the user be able to blood manipulation. While this practice might help sick people, it is strictly forbidden and any one found using it is immediately tagged, investigated and usually imprisoned. Blood Magic is highly reactive, due to the demon magic that gives them their own power. It is also why Witch's Blood is highly sought after by other supernatural creatures. Basically acts as a stimulant. Supercharges any beast from Werewolf to Vampires. It's also why it's advised to these creatures that it's not advised to ever turn a Witch.
The worst one in the eyes of the Basilica is Dark Magic. There will be no investigation or imprisonment. There will just be an execution at the hands of the Witch Hunters.
Now, Witches are, as the Basilica say, inflicted with Magic. It's not a blessing, or at least, the government and the clergy men work together to make sure it's not. When someone is found to have magic, they're told to hand themselves in for immediate examination and placement. They're assigned to places like universities, labs, etc, in an attempt to find the scientific reasoning behind why these people develop magic. If found particularly strong, deem to be any sort of risk, develop grey magic or seem inclined to blood practices, they are tagged.
Tagging is when a Witch is branded, and able to have their movements and magic usage tracked. A notable Witch that has been Tagged is Starling Knight, Doctor and Mortician. They are a highly skilled, talented Grey Witch, and has voluntarily been tagged for the safety of their community.
Comments
Basically you must never ever use your powers, revealing what your magic affinity is. And keep on the move, since things do happen around Witches, according to their magic. For example, light starts to warp around a Light Witch, water and fire and air seem different around elementals, like they don't get wet, burnt, and wind doesn't ruffle their clothes or hair. etc etc. They make themselves known one way or another. Not to mention that blood tests are done by Hunters and affiliates to make sure certain people in government and universities and such aren't Witches. The only ones with exception to this testing is royals, nobility and certain members of the Basilica.

2024-08-02 21:28:48 +0000 UTCThere is! There are some Hunters who make a deal on the side to sell the blood of dead witches, which is less powerful than if the Witch is alive. Others who are Witches who sell their blood but its risky, as that is how Hunters are able to track them. For a vamp its more intoxication, like the sight of wine to an alcoholic, drugs to an addict, etc. To a werewolf, it's more of the scent of a good, hearty meal. It's more of a draw to the vampire but it promises to be filling and good for the werewolf.
