Buchanan Childhood Expanded

The Buchanans are a family that originated from deep in the Highlands and are incredibly proud of their ancestry. Thaddeus Buchanan and Bridget Frye met quite young and married as soon as they could after Teddy had finished his conscription term. Of the two, Bridget was the rich one, coming from an illustrious family that had taken the whiskey business by the neck and throttled it free of money and any competition. Bridget was an only child and she could do worse than a Preacher's son. That and they got married in secret and ran away to a tiny village by the ocean before her father tracked her down and promised not to disinherit her and to train Teddy up to be worthy.

Thaddeus and Bridget had five children in total. The second one died at only thirteen years old and was buried up in Scotland. Their fifth and youngest child passed away in their early twenties, leaving their own child, The Witch, to the care of their parents. She never discussed the father of the child and Teddy and Bridget never wanted to ask. They were just happy with their first grandchild.

From their other children, of the remaining three, one moved back to the Highlands, one moved in a few streets over and one worked overseas but when he returned home, he stays in his parent's house in England. The Witch hadn't met him much in their youth, but he was somewhat warm to them. Bridget always said that the Witch looked a bit too much like their mother. The others, an aunt and uncle, both had families of their own, your aunt fostering a whole household of boys, while your uncle had just one child.

Your cousins lived a couple of streets down, and were always happy to come keep you company. Your distant cousin up in the Highlands only came down every couple of years but by far, one of the smartest of the bunch. Teddy and Birdie had discussed who would inherit the business, but Thaddeus was the one still in charge after all these years, two of his sons running it in different countries.

It is agreed that the Witch is the favorite grandchild. It could be put down as because they are the only child of their youngest child that died too young, or that they look so alike to them, but both of them keep themselves in check to make sure there's no overt favoritism. The Witch is the least likely to inherit the Whiskey business, but there is no doubt that they will be well taken care off after Thaddeus and Bridget's passing, heaven forbid.

The Witch got to grow up around a very loving family, with frequent trips up north, doting grandparents, and going with them to visit your mother's grave every anniversary of her death. If only your uncle brought over his shady associates...
