Small-fry Preview: Ushizaki Urumi

Some of you probably saw this coming. Some of you have asked for it. Urumi’s previous ability was very binary. Once she gave you the Stone Baby you were basically done for. While that works for the ushi-oni myth, it doesn’t make for a very fun game.
We mulled over several replacements, but ended up rejecting the concept of a global effect entirely. Her ability should function when you are interacting with her. We also rejected a “stance” mechanic, where Urumi got a big buff while she had the Stone Baby. It really seemed off-style and wordy. One version of the stance ability even made the player do math!
Urumi now centers entirely around the Stone Baby token, her Spell Card allowing her to put it in play and her Ability kicks off when it leaves play. The Stone Baby itself is slightly different, it still drags you down, but the pain is a little more spread out. We also took this time to make Urumi herself immune to its effects.
Urumi’s art is by Deji or M. Beatriz García, who has been really cranking the illustrations out lately. The piece leans into her youkai myth, where you can see her true nature if you look closely enough.
