Last time I did this I reacted to ADHD TikToks. Today I'm reacting to ADHD brain hacks... should I be afraid of what I might find??

I know this video is from mid summer, but I am binge watching while packing my entire house…that will be demolished on Friday 😅 The struggle and chaos is real. I have went through WAY too many ADHD piles today 🤪

Yes! Same! I currently drop mine on an entry table though maybe a tray would be better. 😅

YESSSSSS. This type of organisational tip is something I try to utilise when I can... and I found that it REALLY helped me a ton. For example, my husband and I were both leaving clean knives out on the counter just because it made it super easy to grab them when we needed them... with new kittens that wasn't safe, so we bought a clear container with a lid. It rests on top of the counter so it's easy to drop the knives in there, and the lid kept the kittens safe. And now it just lives on top of our counter and we're comfortable with it.
I'm so glad you shared this tip! I had forgotten all about it! 😊

One of the very very very few suggestions I got back in the early 90s was what they called OHIO - Only Handle It Once! Living in a very small apartment, there's no stairs to negotiate, but I still forget to do it. When I do it it helps, I don't lose things as often.

I love landing zones as well - Mainly for emptying my pockets inside the door when I get home, I know where to look for my keys, wallet and other things (and collects my change). My Dad called it his key jar - I use a tray.

I saw a tip about organizing and I can't remember who said it. It was something like "Make it as easy to put away as it is to leave it out." Things like, if you're throwing your coat on the floor when you walk in the door, put a hook there."

"In sight but no insight" (ISNI?) for things present but unaccounted and "Out of sight, out of mind" (OSOOM?) for things not present and unaccounted are catchy in speech but less so when written down. OSOOM has the advantage of being widely known and thus more accessible.

Hmmm...further reading indicates that Object Constancy is a term used in relation to people not things. Odd.

I found this. Perhaps we can help the ADHD community and beyond adopt "Object Constancy" Reference: https://www.getinflow.io/post/object-permanence-constancy-adhd-symptom

I love this!! I really agree with what you said about the “don’t put it down, put it away” video. I feel like that is something I was often told by neurotypical people who didn’t understand why that was so unrealistic for me. Instead, I try to keep ‘landing zones’ in places—like a spot next to the stairs so that I can bring things down with me as I pass them.

Unfortunately the "object permanence" misconception isn't just on TikTok. 💔
But thank you! We definitely like to try and keep terminology up to date and accurate to what science meeeeeans. 😊

Okay, that object permanence thing made me glad I'm an internet grandma and not on TikTok... But I'm also thankful that the hip folks out there have this video to help clarify things!
