2025-05-06 20:12:59 +0000 UTCThere's some word play with numbers in the original Japanese poem of the volume that sadly can't really be translated to English. 一歩踏み出す Take one step in 二度と戻れぬ and never return 三千世界の To the universe's 血の海へ sea of blood 一, 二, 三, are the kanji for 1, 2, and 3, respectively. However, only "1" is actually used as a number, that being 一歩 which means one step, while "2" and "3" are used in more idiomatic ways. 二度と, translates literally to a second time, and means never again when combined with a negative verb (because there will not be a second time=never). 三千世界, translates literally to 3000 worlds, but in a lot of Asian languages, big numbers in expressions tend to just mean many or every, thus, it translates to the universe, or the entire world. It's fairly common to have this kind of playing around with numbers in Japanese/Chinese poems, but it's cool that Kubo made the verses align with their respective numbers!
