News Brief: CNN Segment on "Extremism" Equates Racism with "Prejudice Against Business People"

In this Patron-only News Brief we breakdown a recent CNN segment on "extremism" that equated prejudice against ethnic minorities and gay people with contempt for the military and capitalists. Adam wrote about it but it was so bad we decided it needed a follow up news brief to further express our contempt our outrage.

you don't know what you're talking about and you shouldn't act like you do.

I'm a little disappointed by the complete dismissal of the idea of extreme ideas on the left. Did we forget about talkies? About the people who think genocide would be fine if it was a left wing revolution we were doing? (This was literally a huge argument on TikTok last week.) The extreme ideas aren't where this dude thinks they are, but they exist and we shouldn't ignore them.

To double down on this, my background is in biochemistry and epidemiology. Vaccines, even "high tech" ones like the mRNA vaccines, work on simple principles to exploit how your immune system works to give you an acquired immune system response to a specific viral pathogen which greatly increases your ability to prevent disease or at least limit it. It is a wonderful tool in public health but like masks, hand washing, and even quarantines it is insufficient by itself to end a pandemic. I think what you're picking up on is not a failure of vaccines in order to enrich capitalists, but a misunderstanding of what the pandemic response in the West has been designed to do. Specifically that it's primary goal is to keep "the Economy" going not to actually end the pandemic.

Adam had a post on twitter about this on Jan. 7. "We get this shit sometimes and it depresses me to no end. All economic systems & countries—Cuba, France, China, Sweden—use vaccines just as they use microchips, germ theory and gravity. Big Pharma monopolizing an industry doesn’t make the basic science of the industry wrong"

Episode 146 had a pretty long discussion about the ways that global pharmaceutical monopolies make healthcare worse, if that's what you're saying.

I love the show which is the reason that I'm a Patreon subscriber but it's so incredibly confusing that you can do story after story on corporate greed and propaganda and then throw is lines like, "get boosted if you can". Israel is already on it's 4th mandatory booster shot with no end in sight. How much longer will Citations Needed willfully ignore the big pharma capture of regulatory agencies like the FDA and CDC? How can you have such a massive blind spot on such an important topic?

Haidt basically gave support to right wing extremism throughout his whole spiel in that clip. Frustrating to say the least. The global flood of billionaire mouthpieces really is overwhelming. Keep up the fight, guys.

You can just hear the irritation in Adam’s voice in this update. Great news brief, thank you!
