News Brief: “ISIS Bush Assassination” Story Has All the Markers of Misleading, FBI-Manufactured Narrative

In this Patron-only News Brief we discuss the latest fake ISIS story whose big, scary headline has little relation to reality and how, 20 years on since the start of "the war on terror," our media keeps uncritically repeating dubious FBI claims they swooped in and thwarted a terror plot at the 11th hour.

A presidential assassination plot in Dallas with a Bush involved... Sounds very skull and bones

I always think of the recent Chris Morris film 'The Day Shall Come'. Apparently, the plot was inspired by about 100+ stories of FBI-related 'thwarted plots' (according to interviews Morris was giving around the time of the film's screening).

I wonder if there've been any cases where the FBI worked a target but failed to intervene in time to prevent it, for some reason? Gosh, that sort of thinking takes one to a dark and naughty place... 🫣 https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2017/04/09/tamerlan-tsarnaev-fbi-informant/ https://buffalonews.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/authorities-investigating-if-retired-federal-agent-knew-of-buffalo-mass-shooting-plans-in-advance/article_bd408f18-dd39-11ec-be53-df8fdd095d6f.html https://greenwald.substack.com/p/questions-about-the-fbis-role-in

This is my favorite example: # Parents Catch FBI In Plot To Force Mentally Ill Son To Be A Right Wing Terrorist "What the public should be looking at is the fact that the FBI gave our son the means to make this happen. He has no job, no money, no vehicle, and no driver’s license, due to the fact that he is schizophrenic and we; his parents do everything we can possible to keep him safe and functional… The FBI came and picked him up from our home, they gave him a vehicle, gave him a fake bomb, and every means to make this happen none of which he had access to on his own.” https://kfor.com/news/the-fbi-gave-him-every-means-to-make-this-happen-family-of-man-arrested-in-plan-to-bomb-downtown-oklahoma-city-building-say-his-mental-illness-was-taken-advantage-of EDIT: Another gem "But Monteilh's professed terrorist sympathy so unnerved his Muslim targets that they got a restraining order against him and alerted the FBI, not realising Monteilh was actually working on the bureau's behalf." https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/nov/16/fbi-entrapment-fake-terror-plots

This made me think of that Michigan governor kidnap plot. The trial ended in early April and the jury found two of the four not guilty, and the two others were jury deadlocked resulting in a mistrial. The prosecution cites all these wild and sadistic plans like a civilian trial of the governor and leaving her on a boat in the middle of the great lakes. But, then, in a familiar way that was just cited in this newsbrief, "One defense attorney described the case as laced with marijuana smoke and mirrors. Defense attorney Michael Hill said the verdict shows the government overreached and lured the men into a conspiracy." -npr I'm not trying to downplay domestic terrorism, but my initial thought was that the fbi, like in this "isis" plot, drummed up these Maga losers into doing something they weren't actually going to do and the fbi just wanted the headline.
