A Very Special Royal News Brief: American Media Gushes Over Loser British Monarchy

In this Patron News Brief, we wish a dubious farewell to QEII and examine the American pathology––both organic and media-curated––of obsessing over weird British royals.

A Very Special Royal News Brief: American Media Gushes Over Loser British Monarchy

Comments

We've seen plenty of coverage of it in Australia, which isn't that surprising as we're part of the commonwealth. It's easy enough to ignore. I find the American fascination with the monarchy bizarre, specifically because that country was founded following an armed rebellion against the British.

The monarchy is good for tourism? Ya, cause you need an active monarch to get people to go to a countries castles. Then why do people go Versailles when the French killed off their monarch.

Thank you for doing this!! I was born when Eisenhower was president & even growing up in the 60s & 70s I thought it was so bizarre that the stupid American public had any interest in these decadent Euro zombies and their "subjects"/ followers or vassals or whatever we choose to call them. There are certain British cultural touchstones I greatly enjoyed over time (Monty Python, Alan Moore, Joy Division and even most of Dr. Who come to mind) but why should we give a damn about the German family heading the Brit empire? I'll disagree that it's "bourgeois" propaganda, I think even the original boozhies were anti-Monarchical, per Marx. Actually, I respect Ren fair folks or "Furries" more than anyone whose interested in inbred Royals & their pathetic lives. Thank you for calling them "loser"s, it's appropriate!
