Gerardo Vizmanos Collaboration

Gerardo Vizmanos is a photographer based in London and New York. He studied at the School of Visual Arts and has exhibited and featured in many publications. I have been following his lovely work over the years, publishing his photos on my instagram page. I even bought his most recent book!

Today I share with you a collaboration between Gerardo and myself, in which I created a few edits/collages celebrating some of my favorite pieces of his. I was honored to share a conversation with him on instagram where he told me; "I’m glad you like my work. I enjoy your posts very much. It’s fresh and sexy but always with a touch of tenderness that makes your account very nice". He is definitely a big inspiration to me.

You can find Gerardo's work on his Website, Tumblr page,  Instagram page, and at the magazine features linked below.

"Born in a small town of Spain, Vizmanos started questioning socially accepted norms from an early age. He first studied law and formed himself to be a great lawyer by working for various law firms. But at one point he guessed that photography, which was just a hobby back then, moved him and gave him an opportunity to express his true self, his identity. As a gay man, Gerardo has experienced much of what homosexual people have to overcome and fight against throughout their lifetimes, be it the struggle of social acceptance or the decision of coming out. But he is the one who succeeded and proved everyone through his photography that where there's a will, there’s always a way."

The body is continually presented as an object of art. The weaving of arms and legs, the sleek extension of the back muscles, the imprint of the space between each vertebra, and the movement of the neck display a part of the performance art that lingers on in the imagination of the viewer to an extended dance. The lack of emotion is exhibited in full force through the movement of the limbs in the frame. Defying forces of gravitation, pausing time, the emphasis is on the creation of an artistic moment."
