I sooooo feel all of that.

That is so relatable.

Yeahhhh we still, as humans, have limited capacity for doooing things. I hope the cap helps!

Mine is writing me memoir šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I try to write at least something every day but šŸ™„ life and I’m not quite sure how to write a memoir 😐

A recent IBNU of mine was buying another pair of prescription sunglasses (my old pair, which served me well for probably about a decade, broke in August 2022). I was waiting until January, when insurance would pay for it, and then put it off because I was traveling at the beginning of the year. Finally got around to it in August of this year.

I think this might have unlocked something in my brain... I've always struggled with IBNUs and I've tried task scheduling before but all the advice I saw was like... schedule all the tasks!! which just didn't work for me. Scheduling only IBNUs, and capping them at 2 to 4 a week, that is something that I feel a bit more confident trying. Thank you <3

I made my own that re-defines quadrants centering compassion instead of priorities, helps especially with my 'Persistent Demand for Autonomy', At the bottom go all tasks that are complex, towards the the top, is everything that is clear, quick and simple. To the left are things that I thoroughly enjoy and get energy from, which of course means that to the right it's everything that drains me. If tasks show up time and again I know that I either need to break it down into more manageable chunks OR I realize that some task I'm just going to slog through it, it's going to suck and I either need a tangible immediate reward to be triggered to keep me motivated, or I need to ask for as much help as possible! I make this weekly with the entire bottom half of the page being devoted to reminding myself how much I get done when I don't think I'm even doing enough or am wasting too much time, often I realize that I actually needed the rest.

IBNUs are the bane of my existence and have been for the past half-century so I'm pleased to finally have a system for handling them.

The hard part for me is that I support other people in my work (IT Support), and I empathize with others very easily. So, what is important to them, becomes important to me...what is urgent for then, becomes urgent for me. So, in terms of the Eisenhower Matrix, my Quadrant 1 (Important AND Urgent) balloons with things that belong in Quadrant 2 (Important, but not Urgent; IBNU) or Quadrant 3 (Urgent, but not Important)... simply because of how they matter to other people. And, things that would be in Quadrant 4 (not urgent and not important) in reality might get pushed to Q2 or Q3, simply because they might seem urgent or important to others. So, I can get overwhelmed, because people matter to me, and helping people matters to me (and I'm a people-pleaser, as much as I know it's not healthy to be one). When you are a people-pleaser, you lose sight of the fact that YOU ARE IMPORTANT, TOO! And your needs are important, too. That includes the need to NOT be overwhelmed with everyone else's priorities; the need to have your own priorities met; the need to have rest, downtime, to get to have a break from constant work and overwhelm. ~~~~~ I had a great meeting with my manager yesterday, because he told me that I didn't have to take on so much all by myself. He talked strategy with me about how to do tech "triage". • "It worked yesterday, but not today" = Urgent (but might not be important) • "I don't have this, but I need it to do my work" = Important (but might not be urgent) • "I need this, and I need it today" = Urgent and Important • "I heard about this thing, and I think it would be nice to have" = might be neither urgent, nor important

The priority matrix is helpful when I use it, but it was good to hear I’m not the only one who gets stuck on which category it should go in lol
