Getting REAL About the Struggle To Make Friends When You Have ADHD

Hello, Brains! The struggle is REAL when it comes to making friends. I decided to open up about my experiences with it while sitting with Caroline Maguire, author of Why Will No One Play With Me.

Check out Caroline's book, Why Will No One Play With Me?: https://carolinemaguireauthor.com/books/why-will-no-one-play-with-me/

Focus and structure are both challenging for those with ADHD. Skylight can help. Go to https://skylightcal.com/HOWTOADHD and use my code HOWTOADHD for 10% off! Thanks, Skylight for sponsoring today’s video!

This one really hit me hard. At 50+ I still don't know how to make friends.

How to ADHD

How can I find the How To ADHD group on Discord? I'd love to be a part of that community. Every one of you is a fabulous dream come true.

I think we need some community things where we practice saying positive things about ourselves. The part where you immediately went to the negatives hit hard. Because it is so easy for us to do. We need to strive together to make the positive voice louder than the negative one.

I wish there were small discussion groups lead by a coach or counselor. I really struggle with this and am not really sure what I am doing wrong. I am working on cues, and any outside influences that could impact my interactions with colleagues, but wish I felt more comfortable.

My god. THANK YOU for this 💜💜💜💜💜

Coming together in community makes forming friendships and being social so much easier. I struggle to maintain relationships with neurotypicals, but find it comes naturally with other neurodivergents (especially fellow Autistics and ADHDers).

If I had a friend like you growing up, I'd have never known lonliness.

Everything Caroline said plus… BRAVE & CARING. Putting yourself out there, letting yourself be so genuinely vulnerable in front of millions of people who might judge you is incredibly brave. And it’s all to serve others and help them through their journey. I also overshare and I also interrupt and get so excited about a topic and then I go off on a zillion tangents. But you know what? Allowing myself to be that is what trimmed out the people who did not deserve to be in my life, and made space for the people who love these quirks of mine. And I could do this because you inspired me to let myself be myself, and you taught me how to embrace my ADHD, Jessica. So… I’m grateful to you for being weird and quirky - that just made you soooo relatable to me and made me eager to learn about myself. ♥️
