Why Do Some Strategies and Tools Not Work for People with ADHD?

This is so true and took me so long to understand! I now have several planner tools I use and just go for what is working (and charged) for the day

For me, bullet journalling exactly as Ryder recommends it doesn't work - even though I regularly hear it described as 'the most ADHD-friendly planning system out there'. I've discovered, though, that I can adapt the basics of bullet journalling to take into account things I've discovered about my own planning style and preferences along the way like: a/ trying to remember to use different signifiers and types of bullets just gets annoying b/ I want to be able to arrange the tasks for my day in loose categories on the page, not have everything smooshed together in a single list c/ I *NEED* a hybrid digital/paper planning system with the built-in redundancy of double-planning each task each day in two places d/ while I'm not an artistic, aesthetic bujo-er, I do get wonderful dopa-hits from using stickers, washi tape and the odd messy doodle, so incorporating those when I have time has functional value, and perhaps MOST importantly e/ it's OK to decide to randomly change up how I'm planning from day to day if I think something else might work better that day - my planning system is there to serve me, not the other way around, and strict adherence to a specific spread or process is not a requirement

This this this this this. And OMG the envelope method. I'm from the UK and old enough to remember when I used to have to pay bills via a payslip at the post office so you can imagine how many late notices I got. I think it took 20 years and direct debit payments for me to be able to manage my money well. Yep, I take stuff out for savings as soon as I am paid, yep I have a separate "pocket money account", yep all my bills are paid out of another bank account. I think it's one of those things were my ADHD works for me: my main account just doesn't exist because I never use it so if my daily spend account is running low I have to think more about my spending, but I know my bills are getting paid.
